In SC, a last push from Jeb Bush and his mom

The Bushes don't go down without a fight. With the family name and political fortunes on the line, former first lady Barbara Bush joined son Jeb on the stump today, doing her bit to keep his presidential bid viable.

It's a long shot, even if he survives South Carolina's primary on Saturday.

Speaking briefly, she called Jeb "one of my four favorite sons" -- two others, Neil and Marvin, were on hand. Jeb later protested that she had whispered moments earlier that really, he was the favorite. The fourth brother, former president George W. Bush, stumped with Jeb on Monday in North Charleston.

"He's steady. He's honest. He's modest. He's kind and he's good. I'm thankful to be the mother of one of the greatest men I know, Jeb Bush," their mom said.

South Carolina has always been friendly turf for the Bushes, a state to resurrect campaigns and fend off adversaries. But the party has transformed and the mood of the electorate has moved on. Donald Trump drew 2,500 to a rally Thursday night not far from the diner where Bush drew 150 or so this morning.

Mama’s boy Jebbie hitches his mom to her walker and sends her out to do battle for him.

The very flower of American manhood!

Quien es mas varonil?

* Hang in there, Jeb! All the way to Super Tuesday!
I'm rooting for you! Keep hammering away at Rubio! *

He should keep running after the election is over, past inauguration day.

He's going the distance!

“Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
Engines pumping and thumping in time.
The green light flashes, the flags go up.
Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup.
They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank.
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns.
Their prowess is potent and secretly stern.
As they speed through the finish, the flags go down.
The fans get up and they get out of town.
The arena is empty except for one man,
Still driving and striving as fast as he can.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns.
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns.

He's going the distance.
He's going for speed.
She's all alone
In her time of need.
Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse,
He's going the distance.

No trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine,
He's haunted by something he cannot define.
Bowel-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse,
Assail him, impale him with monster-truck force.
In his mind, he's still driving, still making the grade.
She's hoping in time that her memories will fade.
Cause he's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But he's striving and driving and hugging the turns.
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns.

Cause he's going the distance.
He's going for speed.
She's all alone
In her time of need.
Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse.
He's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse.
He's going the distance.
He's going for speed.
He's going the distance.”
