Ralston: Nevada is no longer a ‘lock’ for Hillary Clinton (Panic time for Billary)
WaPo ^ | 02-16-2016 | Jon Ralston

RENO, Nev. -- Nevada is still the new kid on the block when it comes to early-state status in the presidential race. But this year, the state could play a pivotal role on both sides.

With the Democratic caucuses approaching on Feb. 20, followed by the Republican caucuses on Feb. 23, both contests have become increasingly intense, especially the pitched battle here between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

The Republicans are sending surrogates as South Carolina intervenes Saturday, three days before Nevada Republicans vote on their presidential preference. But both Democratic candidates spent the weekend in Nevada, and Clinton canceled events in Florida on Monday to campaign an extra day in the state, a clear sign her campaign is concerned about a place once considered a lock for her.

It is a lock no more.

Agreed. Sanders is a bit like Obama, in the sense that they are true believers in radicalism. Bernie is just honest about it.

In saner times Sanders would be polling about as well as Barry Commoner did back in the day. But, we are over a generation removed from the Cold War, and “socialism” doesn’t carry the same hackle-raising implications for a lot of the younger folks as it should. IMHO, anyway.

I also have to admit that “free stuff” is a powerful lure. It’s never really free, and the cost is almost always far greater down the road for the next generation than if it had been paid for by the recipient up front. But it sounds good to people who want a piece of the pie, and are either unconcerned or too economically illiterate to understand what this “free stuff” is doing to undermine our country’s future.

We have GOT to get this election right.

“Hillary had to give up her Super Delegates to Obama last time.”

Obama is (Sort of) black and depriving him of the nomination would open the demodogs up to the calls of racism. Bernie is old white guy they can’t be discriminated against.

Maybe Hillary can revitalize her campaign by barking like a dog some more?

"The good news is that Hillary is falling; the bad news is that Bernie is rising."

But the best news is that Bernie is even more unelectable than Hillary.

I don’t have enough years left in me to wait. If it’s gonna happen, let’s get to it while many of us old white Bitter Clingers can still hit the latch on the door on the broad side of a barn at 100 yds.

If we lose, i’ll follow a strong leader that steps forth.

a socialist president would be the demise anyway, so might as well go down fighting.

Sanders will require you to smash him using a hammer while wearing satin gloves.

He isnt “unlikable” as a person, but he isnt young and nimble. One trip-up and he’s confused for a couple of weeks.

The trick is to keep tripping him up.

the bad news is that Bernie is rising.

I think it will be more difficult to beat Santa Claus than the Wicked B*tch, but if the dam nomination somehow falls to bernie the red I fully expect bloomers to jump in. Peeling off both the third way gems and the RINOs. That could mean an election so tight that it goes to Congress to decide the winner. Anybody have confidence that red ryan will vote for the Republican if it's Cruz or Trump? I don't.

Of course, but the point is that the Super Delegates are not committed until the convention.

No way the Democrats nominate someone who has lost the primaries.

If they don't, they will get destroyed in the next election.

Sander's voters will stay home.

The death of Scalia has changed the dynamic. We need to be careful about how that will play in the remainder primaries and in the general.

Well, Hitlary’s got the “Hooker” coalition so she should get credit for something there in Nevada.

Bernie will get demolished in a debate with Trump or Cruz.Plus having a socialist running for president will get out the opposition vote.
