The lawsuit problem is taken care of with the statement that the police are investigating “allegations.” There are no allegations that Spitzer allegedly was involved in an alleged assault.
The police don’t charge people with allegedly murdering someone. They charge—i.e., they allege—that someone committed murder.

Spitzer is.. Interestingly idiotic in his contradictions.
The local to me Wallkill police department was sexually harassing women, got caught, got sued by Spitzer.
Yet he was doing lots of skeevy things himself.
