Someone tell me what happens to the Senate seat of Rubio or Cruz if they were to win in November? A special election? Anyone know?

Rubio’s seat is currently open. Rubio decided early on that if he decided to run for the presidency, he would NOT stand for reelection to the Senate.

Cruz’s seat - probably a temporary appointment by Gov. Abbott, to be followed by an election at the next general election in the fall of 2018.

They will have a special election.

Rubio already said he will not run for re-election so there is already a primary going on for the Republican and Democrat who will succeed him since he was elected in 2010 and hi 6 year term is up.

As for Cruz, they will either have a special election for his seat, or the governor of Texas will appoint someone to finish off his last tow years.
