Damn! Can we delay Obama’s appointment, whomever it may be? Will the GOP even stand up THAT much?!
That should be the strategy. Sad day.
yes they can, if they will, I think..McConnell does not have to take it up
“Will the GOP even stand up THAT much?!”
That’s the $64,000 question!
It won’t happen under Obama.
Nope, the GOP will put in whoever Obama wants, just watch. They’ll give us a bunch of crap about how they wouldn’t want Dems to hold up a Republican President’s nominee knowing they’re putting the last nail in America’s coffin.
Republicans own both houses of Congress. They had better not dare to confirm ANYONE that Obama appoints!
On a gentler note, if one was to die, why could it have not been Ruth Bader-Ginsburg?
The current GOP is completely compromised.
Will they delay/stand up?? Doubtful :(
Have they, yet???
I'm wondering the same thing. Anyone know?
Rest in Peace, dear Justice Scalia... one of my favorite Supreme Court justices.
Hillary...or Bill. Gets them out of the way politically. Think about it.
Ted Cruz can stop it.
No.
Cruz, Paul and Lee will. But they will be up against friends of Obama; McCain, McConnell and Hatch - the guys who quickly went to work to confirm Sotomayor and Kagan.
The GOP stand up?
You funny.
No. They will fear the election repercussions which would NOT favor the GOP. Whoever ODimwit appoints will be confirmed.
McConnell says they will, which worries me a bit.
“Will the GOP even stand up THAT much?!”
About as much as they stood up to Planned Parenthood.
Maybe this will be Debbie Wasserman Shultz’s new job, I’m sure the repubs will agree to that (after some hand wringing and of course fund raising).
Or maybe Obama just appoints Hillary... can he appoint himself?
We can put off Obama’s appointment (we have that power but no telling what the Rinos will do), but the tilted court will go on hearing cases while the new member is in process.
The GOP did it before in the past. A Republican-controlled Congress increased the number of justices to ten(to prevent the Court from ruling against Lincoln's actions, I think).
Then after Lincoln died and Vice President Andrew Johnson, a Democrat, became President, the Republican-controlled Congress lowered the number of Supreme Court justices to seven. This prevented Johnson from naming anybody to the Supreme Court. Once Grant, a Republican, became president in 1869, Congress increased the number of justices back to nine again, where it has been ever since.
For specific details on the number of justices at any point during that time, see my old post: [post 382]
I pray the GOP does resist Obamugabe, for once.
