"Thank you for posting this. Choldt, let me ask you, do you think the republican controlled senate can delay a vote until Jan 20??"

No.
That would cause the SCOTUS to go a year with only eight Justices.

Oh No... :( :( :(

Terrible news. May God rest his soul.

NO new appointment until after the next President is in office.

Just found out via going to the WFSB Tv channel website to check on the weather which is FREZZING outside, not fit for people or animals when I saw under the heading of “breaking news”

Eternal rest be granted to the soul of USSC Justice Antonin Scalia O Lord and let perpetual light shine unto his soul. May Justice Scalia’s soul and the souls of all the faithful departed by the grace of God REST IN PEACE. Amen

A very, very devastating loss indeed for the USA.

The court had only 8 justices from July 1, 1987 to Feb 3, 1988 while the Bork and then A. Kennedy appointments were being thrashed out.

There will be NO appointments until the next president.

This is very sad, the man was a legal and intellectual giant.

Here are my random, initial thoughts:

RE: Foul play. I find it very unlikely, given the man’s age. Yes, it, like many things, is possible, but its unlikely.

This now becomes the number one issue both in the debate tonight and for the rest of the campaign. Unless there is another large scale terrorist attack.

Obama will nominate a replacement, given his arrogance, it will probably be a very lefty jurist in an obvious attempt to turn the court.

While the Senate has more than its share of squishy RINOs, any attempt to confirm a lame duck President’s nominee by a is going to bring incredible pressure upon the Senate to delay this. None of the Presidential candidates will support this, and the Republicans running for Senate this year will get two earfuls from voters if they even think about confirming an Obama nominee.

The Dems and media will make noises about confirming a nominee, but given the mood of the country, it ain’t happening.

This election year is already characterized by increased motivation and competition on the Republican side. Independents are fed up with the direction of the country. This dramatically increases the stakes, and I think, increases the motivation of conservatives and Republicans to get a nominee who can win. It also increases the intensity of every Senate contest.

Trump and Cruz will likely benefit, the others may be hurt by this.

Its time to permanently neutralize this lawless bunch of degenerates who call themselves the Supreme Court.

NO SENATE VOTE ON ANY nomination by the communist ANIMAL in the White House, then 7 new appointees by Trump bringing the number to 15, thereby taking this current menagerie of homosexuals, eggheads, marxists and blackmail victims out of any position to stop a hard right agenda to make this country great again.

This is an opportunity from GOD.

The war on the least important branch of government who has assumed unconstitutional and dictatorial powers and is complicit in the degeneration of the United States has begun.

Everything is at risk now.

I have never seen so much riding on one election in my nearly 50 years of watching politics.

No...he didn’t say that...maybe joking, as he (obviously) loves and admires her.

Trump said he’d appoint someone like his fave Justice, Clarence Thomas.

His sister also testified in Alito’s nomination, for Alito.

Bork is when Republicans lost it all. No plan to fight. No will to fight. Surprised by the Dems. That loss began our slide.

I’m sure Obama will appoint a successor via executive order. And the new SCOTUS will approve 5-4. May even get Roberts on board. After all, “elections have consequences”.

I worked on a large city mayoral campaign supporting a Democratic running against another Democrat (No Republicans running)

It was the only election I ever worked on where I was threatened to be killed. A few months later, the same folks, who threatened me, shotgunned my car, which luckily I was not in when it happened.

Do I put it past people who have “interests”?

What some call paranoia, I call experience.
