Although the decision to inform a workforce of 1,400 employees that they'll soon be losing their jobs to Mexico is an admirable one from the standpoint of candor, it hardly makes for a good recipe for workplace morale.

A cell phone video taken at Carrier Air Conditioner in Indianapolis shows the exact moment that the plant and union workers were told that the company had decided to shift production south of the border.

"The best way to stay competitive and protect the business for longterm is to move production from our facility in Indianapolis to Monterrey, Mexico," says the company representative at the microphone.

Although the change would not take effect until 2017, the reactions from the gathered restless crowd were telling.

Joe American worker can elect politicians to deny Joe Businessman the ability to sell his product in America.

Power against power. We'll see who wins. Would you prefer the American people not be allowed to petition their govt for relief from predatory corporate practices? What are you a Nazi fascist or something?

Reading elsewhere, one of the reasons given for the move is over-regulation.

More than once Donald has said the EPA regulations have to be turned back at least 15 years in order for American companies to remain competitive.

Further he often cites Chinas building of military bases using material from the sea floor, and contrasts that with the restrictions we’ve faced to build The Wall.

Went through the same announcement six years ago although it ONLY effected about 130 people. Moved manufacturing from So Cal to Mexico, and final assay. to Marion KY. My income hasn’t been the same. Gringo non Spanish speaking Manufacturing Supervisors need not apply in So Cal. any more.

And how does this work?

>>>import taxes on American companies who have chosen to move offshore

Import taxes on what and how is this calculated and implemented?

>>>More than once Donald has said the EPA regulations have to be turned back at least 15 years in order for American companies to remain competitive.

Then on the other hand, according to his supporters on here, he’s for more anti-competitive regulation.

It’s not coherent.

75% of all new tech workers in Silicon Valley are foreign workers, I guess those Tech workers that were replaced were “Commie union workers’, or would have been saved by ‘right to work’ states.

He knows what to do and he knows how to do it.

I am not Trump supporter; I don't think his conversion from an unabashed supporter of liberalism and crony capitalism is 100% genuine. Call me a cynic, if you will. Trump's business acumen, though, is one of the reasons why I think I'll be able to hold my nose and pull the lever for him, should he get the nomination. Entertainment value aside; I have little doubt that America would be better off financially after 4-8 years of Trump and Co. than with Bernie or the hildebeast.

Yeah cause Trump doesnt have any foreign business interests.

Trump's foreign business involves building hotels and golf courses for the foreign market and international travelers, and creating jobs primarily for the foreign population, and returning profits to the US. They do not involve moving US facilities and jobs to a foreign country and exporting products back to the US for sale.

Absolutely no comparison to what Carrier is doing and Trump's foreign investments.

I am working for a major grocery chain at this time it is union, I hate it takes an act of God if you make a hiring mistake to rid yourself of the person!!! People who REALLY work hard get paid EXACTLY the same as the useless nonworking scum!!! Our union talks are in March for NEW contract if they put us out on strike I WILL cross the line and work!!! I will hide my car somewhere near by but I WILL work!!!! I wish we were able to vote to become a non union workplace but I doubt that will ever happen in CA. you can’t even pick up a broom to sweep something if it is NOT in your job description just ridiculous !!!!!

how hard do you think it is to build an air conditioner?

the local heat and air place here has a young Hispanic dude that’s their main guy on repairs and install,, sharp as a tack

I’m sure they can train Mexicans to build decent units down there .. hey it’s either that or you go out of business trying to compete with units made in China and elsewhere.. you can thank union wages and benefits, Obamacare, huge Federal, state and local taxes, governmental regulations and other mandates.. it doesn’t take a $40 an hour worker to put air conditioning units together

Until 1912 Tariffs were the biggest source of government revenue. Our founders used tariffs almost exclusively to fund government.
The founders were such stupid men. The people running out country in 1912 were so much smarter./s
