NYC Cop Convicted Of Manslaughter In Death Of Akai Gurley

New York City police Officer Peter Liang was convicted of manslaughter Thursday in the 2014 shooting death of an unarmed black man in a darkened Brooklyn public housing project stairwell.

Liang's single gunshot killed Akai Gurley, 28, who was walking down the stairs on Nov. 20, 2014.

NYPD said after the jury's verdict that Liang had been fired from the department. He faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on April 14.

Liang said he drew his pistol as he and his partner patrolled the darkened 8th floor stairwell of the Louis H. Pink Houses in Brooklyn. He said he flinched when he was startled by a noise, which he said caused the gun to fire.

The bullet ricocheted off of the stairwell wall and struck Gurley, who was on the seventh floor. Gurley, who was unarmed, died from a wound in his chest.

Well, when a cop shoots you or one of yours, we’ll expect nothing but your total support of their actions. In fact, we’ll expect praise from you.

That comment is stupid.

You are wishing bad things on me even death because I do not agree with you. Totally stupid.

Whenever I deal with an officer I am very, very careful not to give him reason to get defensive. If for some reason this were to happen to me so be it. Life is full of risk.

Here is food for thought. How many officers were killed the same day this man was killed in the tenement? The point being it is very very dangerous being an officer far more dangerous than being an ordinary citizen.

“That comment is stupid. You are wishing bad things on me even death because I do not agree with you. Totally stupid.”

Who said I wished bad things on you? You are the one claiming if a cop shoots someone it is a good thing, so I only wished that if such a good thing happens to you we’ll expect nothing but praise for the cop doing such a good thing.

Your comment that you support cops no matter what was stupid; fascist, really. So, the best we can hope is that if you learn your lesson the hard way that you continue your praise of cops shooting people, since necessity isn’t your measure of a proper shoot, a cop doing the shooting is your only measure.

So, again, should you or yours ever get shot by a cop, we’ll expect nothing but praise for their work from you.

And your attitude creates the atmosphere in Baltimore where crime is up 300%.

Officers are getting slaughtered all over the country. Their death rates are 3 times what they were 12 months ago. Now when they go into a dangerous situation they have to think that if they should hesitate in defending themselves because whatever they do will haul them into court and possible jail time.

So we live with the stats of Baltimore all over the country.

I am 100% on the officers side and would have handled this much differently. It is way too easy to pontificate where it is nice and safe.

___________________________________________________
I’m glad you aren’t a cop or one who judges their actions. I hope all cops hesitate to defend themselves until they find there is something to defend from. I’m tired of “unarmed” people being killed by cops that were too fast to the trigger.

There is an innocent dead man who would disagree with you about how nice and safe it was. The cop did something he wasn’t supposed to do, he did something he was trained not to do. If you kill an innocent man because of stupidity or fear you need to pay for it. We have to have some reason for cops to obey their training, we can’t just have them going shooting everything that moves because their scared, we can’t have them shooting because they “heard a noise!”

The cops in Baltimore are deserting the crime riddled areas to make a point. How many cops were getting killed or injured in Baltimore? People who get killed for doing bad stuff get what they deserve but people getting killed because the cop was a pu$$y don’t deserve it and the pu$$y cop needs to pay.

You are totally delusional.

You should not wish bad things even death on people. I never said what you accused me of. You are making things up.

Don’t know why you hate cops so much, but you will never win the argument with so much hate in your heart. You will never forget this.

“You are totally delusional. You should not wish bad things even death on people. “

You are delusional since you think I wished bad things on you.

Your reading comprehension is as bad as your other logical reasoning skills where you think a cop shooting blindly into a dark stairwell and killing someone is a good thing merely because a cop did it.

It was not an aimed shot, nor was the gun pointed at the victim. An innocent person is dead, but a little more complicated than others on this thread make it.

This sort of situation is why we have Rule 3. See Post #4 above for the rules.

After Barney accidentally shot the guy, what did he do?

Perform CPR? (Nope, his CPR training was bogus)

Call 911?

Nope. He and his partner let the guy bleed to death while they called their union rep!!!!!!

While the victim’s girlfriend frantically knocked on doors begging for help, these cold blooded goons were begging their union rep for protection while the innocent man bled to death.

Pathetic sissyboys. They should BOTH go to prison.
