Companies exist to make profits, not to lower their prices to a point you deem to be “fair”.

But remember folks, free trade is really great for our country, and if we go slapping tariffs on other countries, it might hurt employment here.

A phone call from a President Trump to the CEO of Carrier would have staffers scrambling for Plans B, C, and D before the sun set, "I can tell you that".

That doesn't seem to have worked before, like when Obama made a lot of noise about corporate inversions. In the final analysis, the company is going to make the decision based on the bottom line.

Actully, it’s 2100 jobs:

United Technologies Electronic Controls also announced Wednesday that it will move its Huntington manufacturing operations to a new plant in Mexico, costing the northeastern Indiana city 700 jobs by 2018. Those workers make microprocessor-based controls for the HVAC and refrigeration industries.

Not fencing people in. Fencing them out.

And unlike the strict Randians, I see a need for the government to restrain the criminal class.

I’ve been a part of these moves.
The cartels don’t dare mess with the companies.

The companies bring jobs to Mexico.
The drugs bring money to Mexico.

They don’t want to mess with either and neither does the corrupt government.

I deal with two companies with plants in Mexico. Their program for visits is we will send a car to the airport to pick you up. Do not take a taxi. Our car will take you to the plant directly. Our car will also take you to the hotel directly. Do not leave the hotel. Our car will take you back to the airport.

I do not see any issues....... how about y'all?

Sounds like it's a good thing that I don't have to deal with businesses in Mexico......

International global corporations with international stock holders that have no allegiance to America or the American people exist to make profits, not to lower their prices to a point you deem to be "fair".

You left a little info out so I spruced it up for you. No charge. You can't take the politics out of international trade, its been that way since 2000 BC.

I lay this at the feet of most of the leftist in power in this country. Carrier and others would stay if the conditions were right. It’s not just wages. It is the overall cost of doing business here. For some business it is just too toxic to operate here.

What Reagan proposed and what Bubba signed off on are two different things. Bubba owns NAFTA.

Even more reason to slap a tariff on them. The true cost will be realized by the consumer. You cant idle our work force and expect the tax payer to pick up the bill. Do these people realize that off shoring is hastening socialism? WTH?

Probably they can’t keep copper for the HVAC units without having to hire security guards to protect the metal. I understand Indianapolis is going the way of St. Louis and Memphis and businesses are fleeing it.

“The economy is booming........................in Mexico.......................... “

While we pay Mexican citizens, illegally in this country, SSN, EITC, EBT etc. etc. We educate their children, listen to sob stories about them on the evening news and NPR, pay for their attorneys, well, you get the picture.

It’s a little more complicated than “Making money”...as I posted before it’s more a case of one business unit making decisions that they think will reduce costs, accelerate growth, reduce headcount or labor cost, etc in response to corporate growth and profit demands. The corporate UTX board is usually not even involved in such decisions except on an oversight basis, but the CEO and C-level statff would be, and those are the people making the “big bux” who don’t want that to change. UTX has paid dividens ever year since before WWII so they aren’t “losing money” - they just want/need to make more!

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/utc-board-directors-announces-quarterly-183000121.html

And that’s how capitalism works, but there are always options and sometimes a little political pressure at the CEO level can make an option that creates more savings but at the cost of potential stock price erosion through public pressure and ridicule not seem as attractive as when viewed only within the corporate vacuum.
