But to the extent that Carson can pull votes from any of the other candidates and keep them below the "Threshold" for getting any delegates, it increases the liklihood that Trump will win the majority of delegates and be able to claim a state as one of the 8 necessary to get nominated.
So I'm not sure, but yes I think it helps Trump but not in the way you were thinking.

What gets me about Carson is he has never spoken out about Obamas abuse of the Bully Pulpit and the resultant conflicts plus assults and murders that came from it. Begining with revenge for Treyvon Martin attacks on non blacks by black gangbangers which resulted in about a score (20) of deaths and serious injuries.
One who has spoken out about it is Mulwaukee county Sheriff Clarke who by the way is running for re election this month. Primary Feb 16th .
When Carson held a brief but slight lead in the Iowa polls Trump set out and accused him of being everything from a pedophile, crazy, and questionable surgeon involved in abortions. Trump was unrelenting and cost Carson his slight polling lead during the November lead up.
Does he seriously believe Trump would consider him for VP ?
The man shoud really formally drop out and use the remaining time to fund raise and clean up his campaign debts.
and besides, it is Carson's decision to make, not the writer's. I applaud Dr. Carson for even taking on the challenge. It's rare to get good and decent people to put themselves out there.

Although Dr. Carson is not my first choice, he has made a number of comments that needed to be said. I also wish Fiorina and Christie had stayed in. I liked the former taking on Hillary and the latter added spunk and humor. The take-down of Robot Rubio will become a classic.
Whether or not Carson drops out, he’s done. It’s hard to imagine him getting more than 3% in SC.
Still, that’s 3% that Cruz needs in SC.
Cruz is wisely pushing the idea that he is the only candidate who can beat Trump. And he’s right. Be has the bona fides and the resources.
Hopefully people in SC won’t throw their votes away on Carson. And hopefully Bush and Kasich will drop out soon as well.
He can stay in a bit longer. Jeb Bush needs to go take care of mother IMO.
