Fighting broke out before midnight in two areas of the Topo Chico prison between a faction of the brutal Zetas gang and another group, Nuevo Leon state Governor Jaime Rodriguez said.
"During the clash several prisoners set fire to the food storage and sleeping areas," Rodriguez told reporters.
It was not immediately clear how the victims died but Rodriguez said there was no gunfire.
Rodriguez said the situation had been brought under control at about 1:30 a.m.(0730 GMT) on Thursday and ruled out a prison break. Worried family members outside the prison at one point forced open the prison gates and threw timber and stones at riot police inside, television images showed.

The areas holding women and elderly inmates were calm, and Rodriguez said no women or children were hurt.

Police vehicles patrolled the streets near Topo Chico in Monterrey, Mexico's third most populous metropolitan area.
Milenio TV reported that inmates' relatives who had been within the prison's premises for conjugal visits had seen inmates with burns. Twelve people were injured, five seriously, the state government said.

I just cannot resist.... The pope is suppose to be down at the Mexican border, holding a mass to open our borders. (You know like Moses parted the Red Sea) He might be able to give comfort to the families.

Somehow, I don’t view this incident as very much of a loss for either Mexico or Western Civilization.
Perhaps we can learn a lesson - providing free machetes and such to hardened criminals in max and supermax prisons is probably a good investment for our society.
Well, that’s 52 more families that will be slinking across our southern border.

We have 52 dead spread out here and there all over the place here is the San Francisco Bay Area all the time, the Nuestra Familia and the Sorenos Mexican gangs and criminal aliens killing each other daily, bullets flying everywhere, none of it makes the local news ever unless it is a white cop shooting a black thug, you go to a county fair and the illegal criminal aliens walk around with gang tattoos on their neck with their new California drivers licenses Jerry Brown just gave them, 900,000 such licenses in just the last week or so, and their kids go around opening at the county fair wearing a t-shirt “Future Gangbanger” put on them with pride by the Mexican cruminal aliens, and Trump is going to win California primary because of this.
