“Six hundred million screaming Chinamen.”

“Last I heard, there were a billion screaming Chinamen.”

“There *were*.”

The loss of a US aircraft carrier would escalate it beyond control.

Perhaps we would not be talking of this if Truman had let MacArthur do his job.

It would be over very fast. Then twenty minutes later we would want some Koreans.

From the article, China's Map of National Shame:

It appears to cover a huge chunk of Soviet Central Asia, aka the stans, as well as all of mainland Southeast Asia. Considering that Chinese emperors used to claim to rule "All Under Heaven", it will be interesting to see how far future Chinese leaders choose to take the recent incremental expansion of Chinese territorial claims.

We are not having a war with China.

It would not serve us or China.

What will really happen:

1. China will stop buying our debt. Interest rates will skyrocket and financial markets will start to collapse.

2. China will raise the prices of all the cheap junk they sell us and start withholding supply. Massive shortages will result in the U.S. There will be runs at the stores. Folks will not be able to fix things they own because all the replacement parts are made in China. Areas will literally start to go dark, because China makes all our light bulbs.

3. China will start restricting the Port of Los Angeles and other port and transportation facilities they now control in the United States. Commerce on the West Coast and to and from Asia will grind to a halt.

4. China will trigger all the virus and trojan programs they have installed in our electronic products the last 15 years. Automobiles and factories will stop functioning. The grid will go down and there will be widespread power shortages.

5. The U.S. will sue for peace. We will give Hawaii and California to China, as well as letting the Chinese take over Taiwan and South Korea.

If we are talking conventional....it would hardly be an island hopping campaign against China .....

China is a mainland nation ...self-sustaining ...

Japan was an island nation not self-sustaining you could isolate...

. don’t find an island nation and a mainland nation the same way....

fight China will be far more like the invasion of Europe with Japan playing Britain....

except you probably have to fight just to get to Japan to get a staging point....

Then China would have the ability to absorbed a massive land invasion just like Russia’s land mass absorbed Germans

it would be a true intercontinental battle

And if we ar talking nuclear then its old fashioned MAD.. scenario like we had with the Russians during the Cold War

This brings into play the huge helping hand the Clinton administration gave to the Chinese ICBM upgrade by approving the sale of Loral delivery system technology in exchange for China’s laundered donation to the DNC back in the 1990s.

Every strategic force expert decried that deal as one that “advanced by decades” China’s missile capabilities. We may someday soon learn just how significant that advance truly was.

Aren't we assuming taht the Chinese would not retaliate against the US in increasingly nasty ways:
1. Cyber attack against the US and Japanese military crippling infrastructure and C4I
2. Use of cargo ships as platforms for missile attacks on US bases in the Pacific including those in Hawaii, Alaska, Puget Sound, and California
3. Cyber attack on US civilian infrastructure starting with the private American companies and the financial institutions to scare American civilians, and escalating into attacks on banking, the power grid, and other utilities.

The build up of ChiCom single men and the military buildup will boil over at some point. We need to win quick because our industrial base is so weakened.

A US carrier is sunk as a result of Obama’s no engagement policies with thousands of US sailors being killed. Obama does not retaliate, but sends John Kerry to Bejing for talks. In the meantime the Chinese launch a vicious cyber attack on the US taking down much of the banking system and power grid. Kerry returns from China with an agreement giving in to Chinese demands. The US military then rolls tanks into Washington, arrests Obama and many members of Congress on charges of treason and promises quick new elections.
