ISIL, said to fear uprising, executes 300 by firing squad in Mosul
Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) has executed 300 people in Mosul, Iraq.
"Daesh (ISIL) terrorists executed 300 people by firing squad in Mosul," said Mahmoud al-Sourji, a spokesman for Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces on Feb. 7.
Those executed were "Iraqi police personnel, army troopers and civilian activists," Arabic-language al-Sumaria satellite television network reported.
Sourji said that ISIL "lives in a state of tension in Mosul" and fears an uprising from residents who remain in the city.
On Feb. 6, ISIL publicly amputated the right hands of three teenagers accused of theft. Reports said the incident sparked outrage among Mosul's citizens as the three boys were reportedly underage and the penalty "was handed down by the group's so-called Sharia Court without investigation."

ERBIL - Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Saturday cut off hands of three teenagers in the city of Mosul in northwestern Iraq, after accusing them of stealing.
The brutal punishment was carried out in front of dozens of people in central Mosul.
“The three teenagers, who were accused of stealing goods from a store in Mosul, were arrested by the ISIS-led Islamic Police relier on Friday,” a civil rights activist told ARA News in Mosul, speaking on condition of anonymity for security concerns.
“The suspects were referred to the Sharia Court, which ordered the amputation of the right hand of each one of them,” the source said.
A Sharia official read a statement before the punishment was carried out in a public square in Mosul city of Nineveh province on Saturday evening.
The incident has reportedly raised the outrage of the city's residents, as the three victims were teenagers and the punishment was conducted without investigation.
The ISIS-led Sharia Court had earlier issued a decision to cut off the right hand of every person accused of robbery in areas under the group's control, arguing that the punishment is originally derived from the Islamic law.

ERBIL - Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) have executed some 300 Iraqi people in Mosul city of the northwestern Nineveh province, an official said on Sunday.
The victims included civilian activists and former members of the Iraqi army and national security.
Official spokesman of the Iraqi army in Nineveh Mahmoud Souraji confirmed the execution of 300 people at the hands of ISIS militants in Mosul over the last few days.
“The terror group has conducted the executions at different locations across Mosul,” he said. “Most of the victims were killed inside the group's detention centers in the city and its surroundings.”
According to Souraji, who spoke to the local Sumariyah television on Sunday, the majority of those executed were former members of the national security and the Iraqi governmental troops.
“Among them were also a number of media activists who have been detained by the terror group (ISIS) last week in separate raids,” the official said.
Souraji, who based his information on ISIS-linked sources in Mosul, pointed out that the executions were carried out by firing squad.
The victims were reportedly exposed to torture at the hands of foreign jihadis of ISIS before being executed. They have been buried in mass graves in Mosul suburb.
