I have to agree with both of you, even if this guy repels one as much as the Affluenza jerk. That’s his right.

Market forces.

No compelling reason to incriminate oneself before tricky questioning by Congress.

Dragging this guy before the committee was a political stunt designed for the Congressional participants to show their disdain for this terrible, terrible person.

Utter failure as he succeeded in showing HIS disdain for this batch of clowns that I also feel. The icing on the cake was when he referred to them as "imbeciles".

You go, Martin.

I have had indirect dealings with him. He is a psychopath.

He has destroyed many up and coming drug companies.

Once a Notorious Short Seller, Martin Shkreli Now Sees a Future in Biotech

Long article and the comments are worth reading.

My run in started back in 2014 while assisting with a humanitarian medical project. The SOB would and does exploit the poorest children in the world who suffer the most horrific diseases.

Google his name. He has left a long trail of destruction.

And I believe the pill was used for AIDS patients (and possibly some cancer patients)..so I guess, technically, it’s a hate crime?

In November, he did lower the price increase from 5000% to 2500%—however, it doesn’t appear to have helped his case with his fellow douchebag Congress Critters....

I have many “thoughts” about this.
It's way too cute, but does serve a purpose, if only people would stop and think it through.

It's not my job to educate people who are too lazy to look into the details of this “case” for this “drug” themselves.

I would much prefer people bestir themselves to look at what is going on regarding an even older drug-Insulin.

No ongoing congressional hearings on that drug issue, is there?

The smirking punk may be a jerk, but what he is doing is entirely legal.

I do agree, however this guy took it much further. Maybe it is just that he got caught.

the govt should have bought the company if they thought the medicine was so important it should be free to users.

the guy is in business to make money not run a welfare state.

Its ridiculous to have a hearing on this guy when their are govt agencies engaging in abuse with taxpayer money!

I understand that drugs are expensive. This guy is a businessman who is making a profit. If he is doing that illegally, they should actually prosecute him. But if all he is doing is running a profitable business within the confines of the laws, then Congress can go take a flying leap.

Next up - corner the water market and charge folks $1,000/gallon....if they can't afford it, sayonara, so long, see ya....

Your concept works fine for normal products that consumers can decide to buy or not - it becomes extortion when one buys the rights to a drug, that may be the only thing between life and death, then bumps the price astronomically.

I'm a Conservative. I believe in the marketplace

If you believe that a "marketplace" exists in pharmaceuticals, you're nuts. This "marketplace" is created and sustained by Federal and state laws and regulations, which were enacted for the benefit (supposedly) of the population. The drug in question (pyrimethamine) is manufactured for pennies and has existed for decades. No inventiveness, creativity, or risk-taking is involved.

It is an artefact of regulation that allows this guy to "capture" the product and charge $750 for a pill that costs him almost nothing.

If this activity is what you mean by "the marketplace", even if perfectly legal, then get ready for President Sanders.

My understanding is that this particular drug is on the open market. Anyone can manufacture it. This greedy guy is the only guy who is kind enough to actually make the drug. Anyone else is free to follow him and make the same drug and sell it for less. But all those meanies are refusing to manufacture what this fine gentleman is manufacturing.

Seriously: I know that he’s a greedy jerk. But it is not yet clear that he’s breaking the law. And he is saving lives by making this stuff, and no one else is doing that.

If a court puts him out of business, exactly Who will benefit? Not his competition: he doesn’t have any. Not the patients: they will have zero access to the drug.

Hey, I think we have a fascist economic system and it is very far from the Free Market.

But Congress wrote the laws. As long as he does not violate the laws, he is OK. I don’t know if he has, or has not.

But if we find this situation intolerable, the right thing to do is to attack Congress, not the only guy on the planet who is manufacturing a drug that people need. Other companies COULD manufacture this drug: but they choose not to. This guy is a greedy jerk, but he is NOT the problem.

LOL!

Start researching the name of the drug,(Daraprim), look at the available information regarding drug patents, next research the jerk (Martin Shkreli), branch off into other closely related topics, and you too will become educated !
