SJackson,
Many thanks for posting this article!
This one stands out:
“...In Judaism, the world does not get repaired by redistribution of income and wealth nor by cutting carbon emissions, but by humans subordinating themselves to God’s will. ...”
Very interesting takedown of “Tikkun Olam.” I hadn’t realized the phrase is not found in the Torah, and the Talmud uses it only in highly particular cases the rabbinical courts. Nothing to do with being SJW’s.
So thank you for educating me.
This one also stands out:
“...”Man” may very well be in need of redemption and improvement and repair, but it is not the business or job of the Jews to carry these things out. And it would be hubris to think that Jews are morally equipped to do so. Jews have more than their hands full in attempting to repair Jews. ...”
Judaism, of the three major world religions, does not take the position you need to join us to become a “perfected” or “saved” human being. It nowhere says every one has to become a Jew to create the world under the kingdom of God. And neither the historical Jesus teach that message. Christianity misunderstood the Torah just as Islam did, and thought it was about an exclusive claim on salvation.
That is not what God wants. God wants human beings to do what is right, to take right actions and to live decent and holy lives through a simple conduct - that’s what the covenant of Noah represents. 99% of mankind that live by it already have a place in Heaven. God doesn’t care what kind of religion they follow. If people treated each other well and the world around them, the world would already be filled with light.
Ethics matter more than ritual or even faith. You cannot have faith if you’re not a righteous person. Faith is lived through one’s deeds. We do what is right and then God rewards us and He is no respecter of persons. Rich and poor alike are equal in His eyes and in their moral capacities. We are far better off doing what we can do to be righteous than in trying to change the world to be perfect - and the world will never be perfect because man himself is far from perfect in his nature and in all his undertakings.
Some of the Jewish ‘Repair the World’ projects ( Marxism ) have been, in reality, murder on an industrial scale.
Moshe wrote down the Law he was given that would bind the nation together with the tribal pastoral values he had learned as a nation of extended families, each caring for each other and prepared to defend as a way of life. The Torah was such a revolutionary libertarian system that were it practiced in full it would have been seen by the poor around the world and induced revolt against their earthly kings. Israel was indeed to be a light of liberty to the world.
Excellent point, and excellent article.
Once again we confront the oxymoron of people who believe the world was never broken at any point in the past wanting to "repair" it.
thank you
Excellent post. Thank you.
Real Tikkun Olam would be opposing homosexual marriage laws and NYC “laws” that hold that we need to humor those suffering from gender dysmorphia.
Great post, thanks. Will take some contemplation.
From this article’s description, I find a parallel heresy in the Christian Church, the Dominionist movement. They believe that they are to take over the world and by force purify it to hand a corrected world over to Christ at his second coming. They intend to force their moral understanding on the subjects of their political power base.
Not as subtle or as innocuous as the Jewish version.
I mention it to demonstrate that it is a movement of the flesh, not the spirit.
It’s made-up gobbledygook. We fix the world by doing mitzvot and learning Torah, not by promoting values that are the opposite of the Torah but make libtards feel good.
