Great!

The wife and I are holding out, waiting to see whether his campaign can get through NH without stepping in a pile of their own poop.

I beg yer puddin’....uh....er....PARDON! I’d just hazard a guess that the REAL averages aren’t $67. About 550,000 of those donations are probably closer to $10 or $15 apiece, leaving the remaining big chunk of $$$$ to be divided among the heavier hitters; some fifties, hundreds and thousands. And then a couple of hundred or so who pony up $100K or more, each. Those are the ones who will try to OWN him. That’s their intention when donating heavily.

No bones about it. Cruz IS my fallback. If Trump blows himself up, I have nowhere else to go but Cruz. I have a hunch and a hope that Trump has turned the corner and will shift into presidential gear; maybe already has with his dropping of his Iowa vendetta, and even mentioning of Cruz as a possible Veep choice.

But to close out the controlling donors discussion. If Cruz does win the nomination, and then DOES become POTUS, if he escapes the clutches of the demanding, threatening donors and lobbyists, and remains HIS OWN MAN for a whole term, he’ll make Houdini look like a Tree Sloth. If he can do it, and then get himself reelected to a second term, his face will belong on Mt. Rushmore!

It doesn't work that way. The campaign proper has pretty low limits that can be donated. The big money boys set up their own PAC or donate to others. They pay more for advertising time (campaigns are guaranteed lowest rates) but they get anonynmity if they want it and no ceilings.

Now there are big time bundlers. Edwards was good at this. You find some massive law firms, for instance, and a bunch of employees pony up the max ($2,600 I believe) for the candidate, but a whole lot of them do it. If you have a REALLY big company, it may look like the candidate is getting money from the company, but in reality it is just regular donors who happen to like that candidate and there are enough of them that it looks like collusion.

You CAN take the line that the PACs control the candidate, but the Cruz people have been fruatrated with how inactive "his" PACs are, but cannot tell that, because that would be coordination.

If Trump can keep from promising the homosexuals special treatment, I can vote for him if he gets the nomination. BothCruz and Trump are getting plenty of flak, and not just from each other. They must be close to the target.

“From gambling, strip clubs, and reality TV on the most liberal network.”

All perfectly legal of course...

I don't think I've ever given dollar one to a political candidate.

Somebody's gotta do it.

I guess it's kinda like voting. If I won't vote, I can't complain about election results.

If I won't send a few bucks to my candidate, I can't really complain if later it appears that he's kowtowing to the "donor class."

I'm pretty sure I can stay home and still complain about the politics of the country quite well.

Remember the billion dollar lottery? My chance of winning that from buying a ticket seems only slightly less than my chance of affecting the outcome of an election with my single vote.

I forget, do we usually go blue in this state?

But the idea of sending money to a politician just does not compute.

I suppose I could sit on my ass and complain about my neighbors' failure to shovel the snow from my sidewalk, too.

Mm-kay.

I forget, do we usually go blue in this state?

We do when red voters stay home. Otherwise, we go red.

But the idea of sending money to a politician just does not compute.

Probably not. Try rebooting?
