Obama to propose $10 per barrel fee on oil

President Barack Obama will propose a $10 per barrel charge on oil to fund clean transportation projects as part of his final budget request next week, the White House said Thursday.

The proposal would have difficulty clearing the Republican-controlled Congress.

Oil companies would pay the fee, which would be gradually introduced over five years. The government would use the proceeds to fund high-speed railways, autonomous cars and other travel systems.

"By placing a fee on oil, the President's plan creates a clear incentive for private sector innovation to reduce our reliance on oil and at the same time invests in clean energy technologies that will power our future," the White House said in a statement.

Fine $10/brl, as long as they cut-out the $/gal (where they take MORE than the oil companies make on the same gallon...for doing NOTHING)

“Oil companies would pay the fee”

Sure, but it all trickles down to us.

Great contrast, and very apt considering $10 per barrel annually is about twice the constant dollar NASA budget at the height of the Apollo program.

The Fraud just bought some expensive property in the Middle East somewhere....

The cash has to come from somewhere, and Hillary also needs all she can get....

FUBO...God forbid we should pay less for something. Waiting for our governor in Pennsylvania to tax the crap out of gas too, it’s already 30 to 40 cents higher than everywhere else.

The latest attempt at starting a Value Added Tax. It starts at only $10. a barrel. Five years from now, who thinks it will still be $10.? More likely to be $60. per barrel, if not more. This can be used as a tap to easy money, just as cigarette taxes were used until too many consumers stopped buying cigarettes retail, or in highly taxed states.

By placing a fee on oil, the President's plan creates a clear incentive for private sector innovation to reduce our reliance on oil and at the same time invests in clean energy technologies that will power our future

Translation:

By sucking more money out of your pockets and causing the domestic oil producers to operate at a net loss per barrel or quit and go elsewhere, BO will first cause the domestic oil producers to temporarily plug wells to cut losses (which will cut supply), and redistribute the money to his cronies in the solar and boondoggle 'renewable' energy industries which simply cannot compete, even with subsidies, with traditional energy providers.

Money will go to the political candidates who support that redistribution in spite of the strategic damage it does to the US economy.

This will also punish those uppity oilmen who had the nerve to produce oil and keep a bunch of the economy running for most of his time in office, in spite of him, his pen, his phone, and the EPA.

Obama froze all Social Security & Federal pensions ‘’because gas is so much cheaper now’ ( But we NEVER got a raise when gas was $5 +++ a gallon).

Now- with frozen income, he wants to stick it to us again.

The ‘high speed rail’ in Calif is already in deep trouble & has spent millions & nothing has been done yet.
