Trump is not a genius strategist in politics. Not yet. He’s a quick study and if he’s motivated he can do it. But this attack v Cruz is not looking good
I disagree and think Cruz is his principal threat. There is enormous overlap in Cruz and Trump supporters as evidence by the split here on FR and the large number of folks that would find either acceptable.
Right now Rubio has only seized control of the "Establishment Lane" which always wanted anybody but Trump or Cruz.
But that lane is a minority of GOP primary voters.
What makes this race become clearer is the consolidation into two primary lanes, Insurgency and Establishment...just about the same as it's always been, and where we all knew this war would be fought.
It's going to be Trump or Cruz vs Rubio.

au contraire. He has to eliminate Cruz before he can take on Rubio. Cruz is competing for the conservative vote. Doing in Cruz is job 1. Doing in Rubio is the end game.
