If I recall correctly Roberts was not nominated or accepted as a first choice of either Bush or Congress. He was actually a compromise after a couple of other nominations.

Roberts was initially drafted to replace Sandra Day OConnor, but Bush withdrew that when rehnquist died and drafted him to be chief justice.
It was Alito who got drafted after Harriet Miers withdrawal.

A massive risk we take with Trump as president is that he will want to appoint his liberal judge sister to SCOTUS and dems will be all for it.

Trump is 100% correct. Cruz aggressively advocated for Roberts to Bush, yet now says he was a mistake.
People listen to Cruz on judges with his academic and judicial background. Cruz was negligent with his responsibility.
They don’t listen to Trump on judges.
They listen to Trump on trade and immigration.
