Team Carson furious with Cruz
The Hill ^ | 4 Feb 16 | Easley

Posted on 02/04/2016 7:05:03 AM PST by xzins

Ben Carson and his closest advisers are going nuclear against Ted Cruz and his campaign for spreading false rumors that he intended to drop out ahead of the Iowa caucuses.

Carson's close friend and adviser Armstrong Williams told The Hill in an interview on Wednesdaythat the Cruz campaign’s tactics were 'nasty, brutal and deceitful.'

'We've been told all along that Cruz's operatives play dirty and were capable of this stuff, but Dr. Carson never believed it, he felt like they had a respectable operation,' Williams said. 'Now we see firsthand that having integrity just doesn't matter to them. It's about honor and character, either you have it or you don'.t'

Williams said he's certain that Cruz knew the rumors about him dropping out were false but says the Texas Republican allowed his underlings to spread it anyway.

'He's a pure politician and will do anything to win,' Williams said. 'It doesn't matter who he does it to, friend or foe, whatever it takes to win. Cruz has been running as an outsider and calling Hillary Clinton dishonest. Well, Cruz is the one running without honor or integrity, and this shows he's just like everyone else inside-the-beltway.'

Carson has demanded Cruz fire those responsible for spreading the rumor, but Cruz has said he won't do that.

"After all the candidates worked so hard, and Dr. Ben Carson had a staff member lose his life working towards this day, to have someone like Cruz and his people deceive and spread falsehoods is unconscionable," Williams said.

No, he did not admit to telling his campaign workers to lie. He told them to go ahead with telling people that Carson was withdrawing. And under the circumstances that I outlined for you and CNN outlined for the world, you’d come to a different conclusion than the Cruz and Rubio campaigns right?

Furthermore, while I agree that the Carson story was at least premature and at the most dirty politics, it wasn’t illegal and didn’t even violate any party rules. Why is it that anything Trump says is “fair game”, but when other people engage in (unfortunately) typical politics, it’s “dirty”? On that note, it certainly wasn’t any dirtier than Trump calling Carson “pathologically diseased” and comparing him to a “pedophile”:

CNN never reported that Carson was dropping out. Why do you keep repeating that lie?

They SPECULATED (a 50-cent word that means “guessed”) that Carson’s itinerary seemed to indicate that he was about to drop out, using a standard that would apply to professional politicians to judge an amateur struggling through his first campaign.

Cruz lied.

You lie. Show me where Cruz or the campaign ever said Carson was definitely out. The memo from the campaign said Carson was "taking a break" from campaigning and would not be going to NH or SC after IA - which is what CNN reported. Steve King said it LOOKED like Carson was out - which it did based on the reports.

They did not pass on the CNN report. They twisted it until it no longer resembled the CNN report.

A lot of Carsons staff left around the 10th of January, too. Does that make Carson a phony, too? —Or just a sad loser who had not the firt idea of how to run a campaign. Also, where were Carsons staff when that story was circulating? No one there disputed it? I guess they must have believed it too considering Carsons’ past actions

CRUZ would know. His man did it in previous election!
Xxxxxx

Jeff Roe, Cruz’s campaign manager, pulled the exact same dirty trick with another candidate a few years ago.

“An e-mail sent to news media outlets and a “tweet” issued by a fake Twitter account announced that Eckersley had suspended his campaign due to personal reasons.

Eckersley blames his opponent, Republican Billy Long, for sending out the hoax days before the election,

“You know this is dirty politics. This is Jeff Roe style management. That’s who Billy’s retained. That’s who he writes the big checks to,” Eckersley tells Missourinet affiliate KTTS.

IMO, Carson needs to file any & every lawsuit against Cruz & that group that he possibly can. This is no time to be naive about what the other camp is capable of doing.

Cruz will never get my vote-—He is dead to me. Also the same for Rubio. Rubio has openly stated that “he cannot see any way that HE would deport the illegals”.

The President takes an oath to support the laws of the USA—faithfully—and that means he must go after the criminal illegals, who broke the law by coming across the border.

IF Rubio cannot do that, he cannot be President of the USA in today’s world.

Even Truman deported illegals. It was called Operation Wetback.

No one can deny: Cruz has wrapped himself in the mantle of Jesus Christ.

No one can deny: Cruz has run a dirty campaign. He has also sealed his citizenship records (why??) and violated campaign laws by failing to disclose loans that would have been quite damaging to his senate campaign.

Is the fruit consistent with the claimed faith?

All of us are seeking a moral leader we can trust to do what is right. Is Cruz that leader?

You know...
I didn’t want to go back through your posting history to see what your thoughts were about how Trump attacked Carson in Iowa...which was the point Carson started dropping in the polls.

Did you express the same concerns when Trump attacked Carson?

Trump attacked Carson’s surgical abilities, childhood memories, his religious experience, and Trump used the term child molestor when talking about Carson.

Now which act do you think cost Carson the most?
A dirty trick? Or Trumps attacks that coincided with Carson’s drop from FIRST place in the Iowa polls.

Cruz publicly apologized for the rumor of Carson dropping out.
Trump won’t/can’t apologize for anything to anyone.

A couple of things about your concerns about the “dirty trick”...
One...we all know the voters of Iowa are not novices. Do you really think they have never seen a dirty trick before?
Two...the story was Cruz and Rubio operatives were spreading the rumor. Did Carson not have people there to refute the rumors?? If not? Why not?
Three...even if Carson had no one there...it would take about 30 seconds on a phone to refute any attempt of “the dirty trick”

I doubt the rumor cost Carson many votes at all...if any!

Now ever since Trump came on the scene...his supporters have told us that one of the reasons they like Trump so much is that he’s going to fight to win.
Well Cruz is fighting to win...he went into Iowa espousing social and fiscal conservative values...took on the ethanol interests...won despite the governor saying “anyone but Cruz”...was gracious when Palin endorsed Trump...and beat everyone. All the while getting the most votes in Iowa caucus history with an 11 person field.
Dirty tricks didn’t get him that win.

King didn't twist it. I don't think Rogers twisted it, I would have to find his tweet again.

Who twisted it?

Funny how Cruz is the ONLY ONE being attacked on this nontroversy, when Rubio’s camp (at least) did the same thing Cruz did, and took advantage of an opportunity to get more caucus people to come to their side. I mean, that’s the whole point of a caucus, isn’t it?

Ben Carson is showing his true colors here, not Cruz.

And those supporting the Kardashian candidate and following his lead lock-step, throwing their trumpertantrums, is showing their true colors as well.

Distract. Distort. Divide. It’s the oldest DNC trick in the book. And wouldn’t ya know, Trump is using it to the hilt. And some still say he’s not a lefty....

Whatever...

Kinda missing the point, right?

Cruz is supposed to be the good guy, riding in on the golden palomino with the white hat. It’s starting to look like Cruz might be pretty nasty. That will kill him in the end IMO.
