RE: Santorum often called himself the most conservative senator from the Northeast, and I think he was.
He supported Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey.
The dearly departed Specter was an opportunist who switched from being Democrat to Republican and then in his final years in the Senate, became Democrat again.
Go figure that.
All true, but only Bob Smith of NH was more conservative, and he left the Senate before Santorum did. Toomey is another of many disappointing Republicans, and I understand he is likely to lose this year.
