Cruz's Iowa Win Akin to Santorum, Huckabee
NewsMax ^ | 02/03/2016 | Bill Hoffmann

Ted Cruz's path to the presidency could be short lived — with statistics revealing his victory in Iowa this week is very similar to the 2008 and 2012 wins of Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum, whose presidential campaigns eventually went belly up.

That mirrors Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, and Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor, whose voters consisted of 76 and 83 percent evangelical Christians, respectively, according to number-crunching by The Post.

Mike Huckabee won Iowa, got 11% in New Hampshire
Rick Santorum won Iowa in 2012, got 9% in New Hampshire

What will it be for Cruz? I think fourth, behind Trump, Rubio and Kasich, with an outside shot at fifth, behind Jeb Bush.

Neither had any money going into NH. Cruz is well staffed and funded.

He probably doesn’t win, but it won’t be like those two clowns.

All the candidates strive for and would be happy to have received a WIN.

So, is the article saying that that is all wrong, that all the candidates, if they want to be POTUS, should have strived to come out second?

Nope.

It’s really quite staggering to think that both of those guys won Iowa just 4 or 8 years ago and now have had to drop their campaigns. Iowan’s are a fickle bunch!

Bush and Obama won Iowa. Therefore you must win Iowa to become POTUS. Kind of dumb logic eh?

What were Huck and Santos margins?

The long knives are out for Ted and he don’t care.

Yeah, but neither Huckabee nor Santorum has a lot of small-gov/libertarian appeal, which I think Cruz does, plus the electoral mood should be significantly different this cycle, so it may not be predictive. (Not saying I think he’s going to win NH, just that the overall outlook for his campaign may not follow those guys)

Cruz will be an asterisk soon ..the establishment is just using him as a tool to hurt Trump, ultimately to pave the way for Rubio

I have always liked Huckabee because I believe he is sincere. I just can't imagine Huckabee pulling that illegal mailer and scamming Carson voters.

Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum were not in the lead when they won Iowa. It was a protest vote and a statistical anomaly. Not so with Cruz.

I think this time next month it’s Cruz in first, Rubio in second, Trump is third.
