Today, Paul Ryan gave a fascinating speech at Heritage Action, a tea party-allied organization that has fashioned itself as the guardian of conservative purity. The speech called for unity. âTo quote William Wallace in Braveheart,â he said, âwe have to unite the clans.â
But his speech was actually a repudiation of everything the tea party has done. Not only that, Ryan also took shots at the congressional Republican leadership, and even the current GOP presidential candidates. He didnât call anyone out by name, but if you understand whatâs happening now and the conflict that has roiled the Republican Party for the last seven years, the critique was hard to miss.
Not surprisingly, for much of the speech he blamed conservativesâ own sins on progressives, Democrats, and Barack Obama. That has become a familiar refrain â Itâs their fault that weâve become such monsters! â but when you say that, youâre still acknowledging that the sins exist. Letâs start here:
âMy theory of the case is this: We win when we have an ideas contest. We lose when we have a personality contest. We canât fall into the progressivesâ trap of acting like angry reactionaries. The Left would love nothing more than for a fragmented conservative movement to stand in a circular firing squad, so the progressives can win by default.

My response to speaker Ryan would be "You are exactly right, and a good first step would be for you to get the GOP members in the house to UNITE with the newer members who were elected on the strength of TEA Party opposition to Obama and fight against the democrats instead of against your own newest members."
If this idiot doesn’t shut his pie hole, the TEA Party will stay home in November, and Ryan won’t be dishing out bad advice as Speaker any more. He and McConnell can be kicked off their thrones by the same voters who won the House and the Senate in 2014.
One down, and two to go.
Yeah I read it.
In reading the opinion piece, it is clearly written from a leftist democrat perspective by a democrat blogger at the Washington Compost. Therefore, it might be more worthwhile to read the ACTUAL SPEECH rather than just accepting the democrat spin on the speech.
Especially if the TEA Party believes the spin of every democrat blogger that posts an opinion piece at the Washington Compost.
ping!!!
Comment of the day.
“In reading the opinion piece, it is clearly written from a leftist democrat perspective”
But i didn’t read the opinion piece, i read what Ryan said. Which is why i copied and pasted what he said. Not what the person who wrote the opinion said.
Ryan is disgusting. He should be run out on a rail.
No, they don’t want us to unite with them. They want us to bow down and submit to their rule.

legit reason.
I agree on the Republican thing. I’m all for a hearty battle, but this whining he said she said junk is going to do nothing but get another rat President shoving socialism down our throats and destroying any hope of liberty with Supreme Court selections. The next President may have 3-4 new justices in the next 4 years.
But we can’t let how you vote on an amendment to an appropriations bill define what it means to be a conservative.

You really think we’re dumb enough to accept that one as truth, Pauly?
And happy to be so.
This is where a lack of Party Leadership kills the GOP.
Priebus should have immediately gone to Cruz and Trump and told them to knock it off.
Not sure if I’m right about this, but I think he’s not in 2016.
Yep. Cause in a couple months, it’s going to be hard to get back together and campaign for the big prize.
FReepers aren’t helping much.
Just because I like a particular doesn’t make me an enemy of America, stupid or ignorant.
It’s time for us to collectively knock it off too.
I think he has set the record for the most worthless interviews in punditry history. He will not answer one question, and gets all giggly when any question is directed toward any controversial issue around friction between the candidates.
We'd done just as well with Pee Wee Herman at the helm.
It looks like it is 2018 when he faces the electorate again.
He is a Rep. so he is up again in 2016.
