Trump drew record number of new people to vote against him in Iowa
American Thinker ^ | 02/03/2016 | Ed Straker

Donald Trump bragged about how he was going to bring a record number of voters to the polls.  And he did.  The only problem is, most of the newcomers came out to vote against him.

In the last presidential primary, there were 120,000 Republican attendees; in this one, there were 180,000, a 50% increase.  Whom did all these new people vote for?  About a third voted for Donald Trump, but two thirds came out to vote against him, for other candidates.  There's no denying that Trump drove the increase in numbers, but most of the increase was antagonistic, not out of support.

Trump has a record-setting 60% unfavorable rating among all Americans, the highest unfavorable rating of any politician.  Many of the people he motivated to go to the polls  were not just Republicans, but independents and Democrats who wanted to see him defeated.  No other candidate, not even Hillary Clinton, has higher unfavorables than Donald Trump.

This has grave implications if Trump, with plurality of Republican voters, becomes the nominee.  He will be so polarizing that he will draw more new people to come out against him than for him, as he did in Iowa.  Part of it is his positions on the issues, but a lot of it is his immature and acerbic personality.  Calling women bimbos is not presidential.  Nor is calling voters stupid or losers, or talking about how he is so great that he could shoot people and not lose support.

Those "yuuuge" crowds that Trump draws at rallies?  Most don't end up voting for him.  But his style is clearly energizing people to come out and vote against him.

Winning the Iowa primary is akin to being on the front cover of Sports Illustrated.

No, it’s Trump creating a lot of attention, and lots and lots of people being disgusted with him and not wanting him to be their nominee.

Hey Seek and Find, how about every now and then—just every so often—posting one of the many articles on Ted `By-Hook-or-Crook’ Cruz’s slash and burn campaigning methods leading up to, during and following the skarewy Iowa cockus?
Is it because he’s a such a convincing Bible banger that we get this drumbeat of propaganda shilling a guy who ran his family through cynical piety drills on videotape?

You’re getting as bad as GGG and libbylu—like a Trump stalker, know what I mean?

and who were those new people? Over half of the people at our caucus were new registers, claiming that they were independents or libertarians before. Who won our caucus? Rubio.

Be my guest. If you would like to attack or criticize Cruz, this is a free country and FR is a good forum to do it.

You post, we digest and respond, How’s that?

I can say the same about the many flip-flops of Cruz and his inability to work with others. So far, not one of his Senate colleagues has endorsed him. Why?

There are only two candidates I will vote for: Trump or Cruz, but Trump is by far the stronger choice. He has proven he can actually run something in the private sector and has not worked in government most of his life like many of the other candidates including Cruz who is an insider pretending to be an outsider. All politicians are bought and paid for by their corporate paymasters and special interests. We don't need another first term senator in the WH.

We are not going to convince on another to change our preferences. On that we can agree.

Iowa is Iowa, and if it meant anything President Huckabee would be posing for his statue instead of folding his tent after Iowa voters dumped on him 8 years later.

Tell that to Presidents GWB and Carter, both of which one Iowa.

RE: I can say the same about the many flip-flops of Cruz and his inability to work with others.

OK, let’s talk about that.

Were you in support of Cruz’s shutting down the government over the budget and Obamacare, or do you support the GOP who disliked him for doing that?

And this is not logical or factual.
An increase in Rep turnout I would say was caused by revolt against bo.

First, Cruz did not shut down the government over the budget or Obamacare nor did he defeat amnesty. One senator does not have that power.

I am in favor of using every tool at the disposal of the legislative branch to stop Obama's agenda, including shutting down the government. FYIW it was and has never been a complete shutdown of government since essential services would continue.

The House holds the purse strings. It has been controlled by the Reps since 2010, but the Reps have failed to use that power.

He’s also not mentioning that under 10 thousand came out for Hildabeast and Saunders COMBINED!

Trump’s remark about shooting someone...was in reference to the solid dedication his staff has for him. It was an idiom!

Furthermore, Trump is totally stunned by the level of dishonesty in politics. He’s dealt with sleezebags before, but this is above and beyond what he’s used to even.

If Cruz wins the nomination, as I hope he does, he would do well to learn from Trump — his swagger, his open scorn for political correctness, and his doubling-down rather than apologizing. If he loses the offensive for even a minute, as by refusing to confront socialistic fairness rhetoric, he’ll end-up like Dan Quayle.

>> I highly doubt he is going to sell his hotels, buildings and golf courses at a loss in order to raise money to fund his campaign <<

Yes, and it should be emphasized that it would be absolutely impossible to sell those properties quickly enough for the General Election, unless Trump should do so at “fire sale” prices — which at best might bring something like 30 to 40% of the assessed values.

On the other hand, maybe he could mortgage the properties — but he still wouldn’t get 100% of the fair values. And then, whether he lost or won the election, somebody would need either to pay off the mortgages for him (donors!) or buy the properties at discounted values.

In other words, the whole idea of “self-funding” is such a yuuuge crock that only a super-pitchman like Trump would ever dare to try selling the ridiculous idea to a gullible public.
