Microsoft has made Windows 10, the newest version of the operating system, a "recommended update," meaning that it will automatically download onto PCs, according to The Verge.

PCs that are are running Windows 7 or 8.1, the two versions that preceded 10, will download the newest version of the operating system automatically, unless the user opts out of the update.

Microsoft announced in October last year that Windows 10 would download automatically onto PCs, and has now started the process.

Anyone who has a metered internet connection, with a data limit, will have to switch off the automatic update manually, as it will use up around six gigabytes of storage.

I do not intend to up date. I've manually shut-off automatic up-date.

You'll also want to remove these Windows 10 programs that are probably already on your PC. They are: 3068708, 3022345, 3075249, 3080149, 3035583. They're already spying on you like Windows 10 will do.

Is it an automatic download/install or just a download?

Windows 10 must be better at collecting our personal data.

Ugh... more FUD. Just change your Windows Update settings to notify of updates but choose to download. If you have your Windows Update settings set to “Update Automatically” you already have the 6 GB monster on your C: drive.

Is this turning into a property rights issue? I own my PC. I licensed Windoze 8. I don’t want spyware. To spy on my activities is a violation of my privacy. It is taking liberties with my ability to use my own PC, for which a license fee was paid by the manufacturer.

I have no intention of upgrading to Windoze 10 unless all the spyware “features” are removed. Period.

Read the EULA for Windows. You don’t own anything. Want to “own” your machine? Develop your own OS. Even Linux isn’t 100% private.

I see a great opportunity for customers with data caps who have to pay for overages to sue the crap out of Microsoft

Speaking of taking liberties, I have a friend whose net connection is via WildBlue VSAT. He has data caps that he is constantly bumping into. It is outrageous that Microsoft would presume to force someone to consume bandwidth to stuff gigabytes of update on them without their affirmative consent.

In fact this itself is a form of theft through potential denial of service via interference.

Microsoft’s Windows 10 Has Permission To Watch Your Every Move

“Microsoft collects information about you, your devices, applications and networks, and your use of those devices, applications and networks. Examples of data we collect include your name, email address, preferences and interests; browsing, search and file history; phone call and SMS data; device configuration and sensor data; and application usage.”

Why is it that supposed tech-savvy media cannot keep the fact that storage is not the same as what I call "bandwidth" (the amount of data shipped, rather than the exact meaning of data capacity)?

Again, read the EULA. Microsoft isn’t responsible for that, per their own license. And I’m sure your ISP’s contracts have something similar.

Still using XP, Slackware 14.2 is my next step. I’m done with Windows.

The EULa will mean nothing after some class action lawyers dissect it and file a lawsuit claiming RICO and Sherman Antitrust violations in addition deceptive trade practices.

I have no intention of upgrading to Windoze 10...

I still have a WinXP box that is now disconnected from the 'net and is for utility use only...audio, video editing, etc.
My main PC is now Linux. I use WINE for those "gotta have" applications and since switching...it has been a little slice of heaven.
I use a KVM switch to utilize one keyboard, mouse and monitor.

Not another dime to Microslop.

“You don’t own anything. “

Wrong. You own your hardware.
