Ted Cruz Is A 'Natural Born Citizen,' Board (Illinois) Of Election Finds
Huffington Post ^ | 02/02/2016 06:37 pm ET | Cristian Farias

On the same day he won the Republican Iowa caucus, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas got a favorable decision from the Illinois Board of Elections, which ruled that he met the citizenship criteria to appear on the state's primary ballot.

Two objectors, Lawrence Joyce and William Graham, had challenged Cruz's presidential bid with the board, contending that his name should not appear on the March 15 ballot because his candidacy did not comply with Article II of the Constitution.

In response to the filings, Cruz's lawyers relied on Supreme Court precedent, legal history and articles from noted constitutional scholars to defend the view that he is in fact "natural born" within the meaning in the Constitution.

SCOTUS won’t hear it. Or did you miss the last eight years?

But Donald Trump says he is not, so that’s all that matters. Right Trumpsters?

.
It is an issue resolved by congress in accordance with the constitution, over two centuries ago.

Get over it!

Good for Cruz. This better not make it to the Supreme Court. Roberts can get creative at times.

The Constitution gives the right certify eligibility for the presidency to the Congress, not the courts. The SCOTUS can’t rule on this.

FACT, he is ELIGIBLE.

It will never be heard before the Supremes.

And yes, by ANY definition except one from a Hillary supporter, Cruz is NBC.

To all you Trumpbot, birther nuts, this is more evidence that this is a non-issue.

All you have to do to recognize Trump’s lack of seriousness about this issue is to look at his “bird that swallowed the canary” look and his broad busting out smile during the Fox Business News debate when Cruz correctly noted that Trump had publicly stated in September that he had no issue with Cruz’s candidacy, but now that Cruz had crept up on him in the polls, he was making it an issue. Trump looked like he was going to fall over and roll on the floor laughing, since he knew he had been exposed for his lack of genuineness about it.

Trump further confirmed Cruz’s charge that Trump was being an opportunist on the issue when he responded to asking a question about why he was now bringing this up, “Well, he’s getting closer.”

Nothing more need be said...

No, I don’t think they do, because this board is not qualified to interpret the US Constitution. This is an issue that has to be decided in the courts, and the dems have said they will file suit in the courts if/when Cruz is nominated.

Trump would have to sue Cruz to get a judicial decision on this BEFORE a judge could knock out the only R to stand in the dem candidate’s way.

Interestingly enough, the dems haven’t threatened to sue Marco Rubio if he’s the nominee...

Sorry, but he is Not a "Natural Born citizen".

What a convincing and logical argument. Why didn't I think of that. I've totally changed my mind... (/s)

His Momma was a citizen. Some want to play birther expert like they did with Obama.

I thought it was a legally-unworkable and below-the-belt maneuver when it was leveled against Obama. Romney thought the same, which is why he stayed away from it. I wonder to what extent the birther movement helped to energize pro-Obama voters, out of a sense that his GOP birther critics were a bunch of scumbags.

Challenges are underway for Rubio as well. Neither of his parents were here legally. He’s an anchor baby.

Citizenship at the time of the adoption of the Constitution was determined by the FATHER.

It’s a big issue, but in the ‘it is what we say it is’ world of active judges what does the law have to do with anything? It’s all about naked power.

5000 vote difference and the Cruz supporters are here - not celebrating - but on non stop bashing mode.

It’s a looooooong campaign. Cruz will not win N.H.

But this is concerning re the Rubio surge - Rubio is the GOPe’s guy now:

Remember that in Iowa, trump got smashed among those who indicated they decided only in the last few days who to vote for.

NH is notorious for being a fickle, late-breaking state.

% of NH Primary Voters that decided in final week (via previous exit polls)
2012: 62
2008: 50
2000: 41
1996: 57

Agreed, that is why I said SCOTUS will never hear this case.
