Ted Cruz Is A 'Natural Born Citizen,' Board (Illinois) Of Election Finds
Huffington Post ^ | 02/02/2016 06:37 pm ET | Cristian Farias

On the same day he won the Republican Iowa caucus, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas got a favorable decision from the Illinois Board of Elections, which ruled that he met the citizenship criteria to appear on the state's primary ballot.

Two objectors, Lawrence Joyce and William Graham, had challenged Cruz's presidential bid with the board, contending that his name should not appear on the March 15 ballot because his candidacy did not comply with Article II of the Constitution.

In response to the filings, Cruz's lawyers relied on Supreme Court precedent, legal history and articles from noted constitutional scholars to defend the view that he is in fact "natural born" within the meaning in the Constitution.

I wonder how many foreigners just became natural born citizens of the US overnight now?

Zero. They either were citizens from birth already or they weren't. Nothing has changed.

I did answer the question.

If their parents didn’t meet the residency requirements, they aren’t citizens.

I’m not a biographer of Grace, so I have no idea.

I am not the one who has the misconception. Natural born is akin to a birthright. Only two citizen parents giving birth to a child on US soil makes anyone natural born.

No act of congress or precedent out of a court can change natural born.

Anchor babies are not natural born.

Btw..the mother of a descendent of the prophet meets your residency requirement. So answer the question. Did the founding fathers want a middle eastern prince as President

“What a convincing and logical argument.”

If Cruz, being born in Canada, moved to the US last week, do you think he’d be considered a natural born citizen? Of the USA, that is.

Whoever here is trying to dispense legal advice without a license is committing the crime of practicing law without a license.

She's as guilty as anybody here who finds opposite on the subject.

I believe the original intent and the intent now is that “natural born citizen” means that a person who is a citizen at the moment of their birth. It does not mean they are citizen only by virtue of being born in this country. That is a big misconception.
***********************************

The original intent was no divided allegiance or loyalties.
Born here of citizen parents.
No other possibility, naturally a US citizen.
The new definition is simply born a citizen, even if only on one’s mother’s side, which makes every anchor baby
and Winston Churchill eligible.

Why don’t you give me a brief, Counselor?

BTW, what’s your speciality?

Oh, and are you better at Constitutional Law than your election prognostications?:

“:Oh, I predict Trump wins handily. IIRC, my prediciton on the prediction thread was Trump 32, Rubio 18, Cruz 15.”

“And he was until he renounced dual citizenship.”

A natural born citizen has no choice to make. Common sense must be completely dead in this country.

I remember reading it from a federal statute, but I don’t know it offhand.

Other freepers have informed me that is correct.

As Benjamin Franklin said “A republic, madam, if you can keep it”. I am watching as the answer is revealed.

Apparently we will morph to the United States of the World.

8 USC 1401 has US residency requirements for the citizen parent, for birth in wedlock, abroad.

You are in charge of what you choose to believe. I am not natural born. I was born in Germany to two US citizen parents. Born a US citizen, yes, but because I was not born on US soil, I am not nor ever will be ‘natural born’.

And neither will Cruz ever be natural born.

Trump will be calling the board of elections in every state, “stupid”.

At this rate, Trump won’t last beyond the SEC primary.
