Most guns drawn in self defense never fire a shot. The aggressor backs off. The aggressor looks for easy victims of which there are plenty.
Most crime happens in high crime areas. So most guns as deterrence happen in high crime areas. But the defensive person who deters crime with a gun is subject to disbelief by the police. So the good guy does not report anything to the police and does not want anyone else to out him.
The last thing the good guy needs is hassles with the police.
At least, that was my personal experience in Chicago’s inner city.
