Army and Marine Corps chiefs: It’s time for women to register for the draft
Washington Post ^ | February 2, 2016 | Dan Lamothe

...said they were in favor of the change during an occasionally contentious Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on the forthcoming full integration of women in the military. They offered their opinions in response to a question from Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), who said that she also is in favor of the change.

"Senator, it's my personal view that, based on this lifting of restrictions... every American who's physically qualified should register for the draft," Neller said.

"Senator, I think that all eligible and qualified men and women should register for the draft," said Milley.

The comments are a first in the Defense Department. Previously, senior defense officials have said only that the issue would need to be researched following Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter's historic decision in December to open all jobs in the military to women without exception.

Carter's action allows women for the first time to apply for a variety of physically punishing positions, including Army and Marine Corps infantryman, as well as Special Operations jobs, including Navy SEAL and Green Beret. The Defense Department plans to begin implementing associated changes in training and evaluation by April 1.

The Selective Service System has existed for decades, and was created to make sure the military has enough manpower when it is short-handed in a time of war. A variation of it was first adopted in 1917, as the United States prepared to join enter World War I.

But Selective Service laws have never required women to subject themselves to the draft and face the prospect of being forced into military service. The current version of the Military Selective Service Act requires that virtually all men in the United States between the ages of 18 and 26 register, most within 30 days of turning 18. That includes non-U.S. citizens...

They can register until hell freezes over they are not drafting my daughter.

Have the men of our country been so pussified, especially those in the officer corp that they are willing to take the countries daughters to do their fighting. Is being Kaitlyn Jennered now a requirement for command in the military?

No, it’s basically sending in a postcard. Now, if you proceed to the draft physical stage, that’s something a little more...revealing to the participants. Mine was, anyway.

* This could start CW2 as far as I'm concerned. *

My guess is that 0bama was placed into power hoping to goad honest patriotic citizens into a Civil War. It would be a more effective excuse to clamp down on all freedoms than the Climate Change Hoax has turned out to be.

The Climate Change Hoax has been sidelined due to apathy and people smart enough to see through government science taqiyya.

Stopping people that take up arms to defend themselves will seem like a good “reason” to destroy liberty.

I agree, they wanted combat, now they have it. So amending the draft to include women registering should be done. If I were a 18 year old male, I’d sue to make sure it happened. Want equality, that is equality.

Women are now in combat, so that decision is now moot.

Women can volunteer for combat. Men get assigned to combat. That is not "equality".

All part of the long-term Leftist master strategery.

Parents do not want their sons drafted to go to war. If a war starts to become too costly and bloody they will rise up as they did in Vietnam and drive the anti-war movement.

It will be triply so if their daughters are being drafted.
It’s the master strategery to force us into pacifism.

Consider that Israel conscripts women into the military. I think over 65% of women have served. (there are exemptions that some people take)

The feminists want equality, well dang it, they will get it! Men are the majority in dangerous civilian jobs and yet women still get all kinds of extra reproductive rights plus a bias in the family and divorce court system. Well they can just be drafted.

Another possible good thing: less women will have a visceral fear of guns if they have served a few years in the Army.

There are probably multiple permutations that haven’t been thought of yet.

In the infantry, virtually all of Israel’s female combat soldiers are confined to two light battalions — the Caracal and the Lions of Jordan — which are assigned to guard the borders with Egypt and Jordan, the only Arab countries that have peace treaties with Israel.

“Uniformed Israeli women patrol the borders or help to train men for combat positions, but these important missions do not involve direct ground combat, meaning deliberate offensive action against the enemy,” said Elaine Donnelly, who heads the Center for Military Readiness. “None of America’s allies, much less potential adversaries, are treating women like men in the combat arms.”

Israeli women’s assignments are far more restrictive than the roles envisioned by advocates in the United States who anticipate an American military that opens all ground combat units to women

Many here seem to equate registering for the draft as equal to being in front line infantry. I don’t see that connection.

Does anyone here actually realize just what a small percent of people in the Army ever actually fight on some "front line"? Much of the Army is support and logistics. All the technology and tactics in the world won't matter if your logistics are f***ed. Drafting women into the military does not mandate them being at the front line participating in bayonet charges. Every person in support & logistics they free up could be one more man at the front line.

I wonder how much of this is intended to throw the issue back in Obama’s lap. “You want equality in the military? You want women in the infantry, armor, special ops units and combat aircraft? Let’s see how the American public responds to registering their daughters for Selective Service.”

I can only hope...

In a word YES! They have had me, my father, my brother, my 10 uncles and my son in law. My grandsons are going to enlist in the Marine Corps after high school. They aren’t getting my granddaughters. If that’s not enough for the General he can kiss my arse.

The Israelis experimented briefly with women in front-line combat positions.

They quickly determined that was impractical for a whole host of reasons. They reversed course and have never tried it again.

So to teach the morons a lesson because they screwed up the infantry you want your daughter to be drafted into the infantry so they can screw it up some more?

Personally I think everyone should be given 1 year mandatory service in the Military. Mind you not obummer’s military but down the line. American kids need some discipline in their lives especially now a days.
