Read about the beard. When Carter started to try to unravel the wrappings, they had a terrible time because of the hardened state of the resin. That's why his remains look so bad. There's even a theory that the oils in the resin they covered his mummy with caught fire:

I think we are referring to 2 different resins.

I am referring to the botched repair years ago where museum staff glued the broken off beard back with modern epoxy resin.

I would thing the original natural resins used at the time of the burial (if that is what was used) had all but turned to amber, and been impossible to remove without massive damage.
