Trump: Unlike Cruz, ‘I Have a Heart,’ I’ll Enact Universal Health Coverage
National Review ^ | January 31, 2016 12:20 PM | Tom S. Elliott

In an interview this morning on This Week, Donald Trump cited his desire to "help people" as the reason he favors government-funded universal health coverage. Unlike Ted Cruz, Trump said, "I have a heart."

"If somebody has no money and they're lying in the middle of the street and they're dying, I'm going to take care of that person," Trump said.

‘I didn’t call anyone a “Trumpanzee”, a “Trumpnut” or anything else.’

Good for you. On this thread I would not have blamed you though!

I hate Big Ethanol too.

We want a debate!

A Trump and Cruz debate!

We want a debate!

A Trump and Cruz debate!

That would be different from the GOP-e, how?

It wouldn't.

But someone who is not well liked by the GOPe, who has stood steadfast for conservative ideals, who won't 'go along to get along', sounds like a better deal to me.

The GOPee isn't supporting Cruz. But they can 'deal' with Mr Trump.

Just like the 'deal' in Iowa.

“So you are in favor of letting people die in the streets?”

Why are you attacking from the left? Did I hit your progressive nerve?

Trumpanzees have soft spot for progressive policies. They mask it with their pseudo-tough nationalism, but that is just smokes and mirror. Trump is a smokes and mirror candidate.

‘He did say everyone should have health care; that people shouldn’t be allowed to die in the streets.’

Ah. So really this headline is likely a smear job.

Ok, but would you join in calling for a Trump-v-Cruz debate?

Let the chips fall where they may!

He referred to that ages ago (and I thought Scotland was the model he had brought up), when the GOP wasn’t much better either, pushing Romneycare solutions.

His clear position now and in the campaign is a better free market solution, allowing, for example, interstate competition. When he talks about government solutions he makes clear he means for the truly needy. (Just as Medicaid is intended for.)

Donald Trump is Liberal.
I won’t vote for him in the primary and I certainly will write in the name of TED CRUZ in the general.

But because he voted in favor of cloture, it went to the floor and passed.

And if he wasn't sworn-in as a Senator, none of this would have happened. /s

Once power is given to government, it is never given back.

Well then it doesn't matter does it?

On balance, he has done far better than most. That hasn’t won friends in Congress.

Thank you for the nice comments and the dialogue.

Trump has spoken out about a $21 trillion dollar ceiling above which he thinks the United States will be at a tipping point.

If anyone will ever take a hard look at welfare and do what needs to be done, it would probably be him. About 80% of it needs to be done away with. The free ride cannot continue as it has from the late 60s early 70s. I think he knows that.

Would it be wise to address that right now? No. I also think it needs to be approached in a reasoned manner. Tell able bodied people on welfare that it is going to end in three or four years, and then reduce each paycheck by 1/36th or 1/48th depending. At the end of that time, we only have 20% of the current welfare roles, and only that for people who have clear reasons why they will never be able to work.

We need to take a hard look at the Social Security roles, and ween people off who never worked a day in their lives. The particularly foreign born, need to be disassociated with SS.

Trump is bringing in a high level team of financiers to help him get the budget under control.

Now this is dependent on him increasing jobs in the U. S. too. We can’t just toss folks on their nose and continue to have the non-working we do today.

We need a full employment condition here, and I think Trump understands economics and job growth better than just about anyone.

He doesn’t address these things, but they will invariably come up under the scrutiny his financial team will be giving the federal budget.

It’s about time.

I can’t say that he’ll do any of this. What I can say is that he has indicated there will be an environment where this sort of things is more likely to be addressed than at any time in the 65 years.

Trump has addressed this issue at length in his over 60 campaign rallies.

If you refuse to listen to them, what’s left to be said?

By all means, give me a thesis level reply.

These aren't "talking points".

I work(ed) in the energy industry. I am a geologist.

I have seen first hand the destructive policies and nature of the EPA.

You don't have to take my word for it.

You can wait until they show up on your doorstep, herd you out of your neighborhood, whatever. That is the trajectory the agency is on.

If I am going to "ride the lightning" for telling the truth, than I'll do so proudly. The EPA was reviled around here until Mr Trump said he'd keep them.

I didn't "browbeat" you unless facts are something you consider "browbeating".

You are the one who even brought up cute names for Trump supporters--I haven't used those, not even once. (Now, if I was going to do so, I would use "Trumpettes" for the blaring that drowns out all reason, but I won't.)

So go for it. I'm waiting for your thesis.

Trump will sign a bill to repeal Obamacare.

Everyone will have medical coverage.

Private and employer-based insurance will be sold nationwide.

Medicare will continue for those who paid into the system.

The VA will take care of our veterans.

States will work with hospitals, churches, and charities to assist the indigent.

Illegal aliens will receive health care that will be paid for by the recipient’s country of origin prior to deportation.

May I ask if you just became this agitatin’ American Nationalist or has it been a while? Trump became a Nationalist well after 2013. Before 2013, he was for legalizing illegals. He even hated Romney for Romney’s “deportation” comments. Trump, after 2013, figured out the “deal”.

Trump is a classic fraud and his “agitating” supporters are clearly not conservatives.

How do you do research on Reagan's support of H-1B when it was a Bush I initiative. Reagan was a protectionist. His record on protectionism is well documented.
