The Wounded Warrior Project, the charity for wounded veterans, has been placed on Charity Navigator’s watch list over accusations of using donor money toward excessive spending on conferences and parties instead of on recovery programs, according to CBS News.

According to the charity’s tax forms, obtained by CBS News, spending on conferences and meetings increased from $1.7 million in 2010, to $26 million in 2014, which is the same amount the group spends on combat stress recovery.

Charity Navigator is a watchdog organization that evaluates charities in the U.S.

Army Staff Sergeant Erick Millette, who returned from Iraq in 2006 with a bronze star and a purple heart, told CBS News he admired the charity’s work and took a job with the group in 2014 but quit after two years.

"Their mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors, but what the public doesn't see is how they spend their money," he told CBS News.

Millette said he witnessed lavish spending on staff, with big “catered” parties.

Two former of employees, who were so fearful of retaliation they asked that CBS News not show their faces on camera, said spending has skyrocketed since Steven Nardizzi took over as CEO in 2009, pointing to the 2014 annual meeting at a luxury resort in Colorado Springs.

Trump wisely left them off the list even though Trace Adkins has been associated with them.

Folks who run big charities need to party and live the lifestyle. After all, if you help the poor like Franklin Graham, you need to pull in that $880,000 a year. And while the base salary to run the Red Cross a few years ago was $500,000, that didn’t include benefits and bonuses.

At least this dude apparently lets staffers get in on the fun.

Strange that Wounded Warriors was being investigated in such a timely fashion.

Even though it was left off the list, it may have been the impetus for the Vet Rally.

I like to listen to Trace Adkins, sing or talk. But it seems I read a while ago that WWP was restricting Christian talk of some kind in its program. Someone else may refresh my memory.

I think it might have been . But once they started to see the controversy they had to nix them.

Trace Adkins played for Red Cross. I believe that is another one mired in scandal over the years because of use of funds etc . I remember a Vet saying to me they had to pay Red Cross back for assistance they received. I have no idea if true.

Trace played for them because they came to his aid after a fire.

Their overhead costs are too high, and unfortunately the only way to get the message across is to not give to them and force them to become more efficient.

Based in Florida and sent 500 people to Colorado for a conference? Crazy.

My father, a WWII vet, hated the Red Cross because he said that they charged the soldiers in the field for the donuts and coffee they brought. He would never give them a dime the rest of his life. He was in France during the war.

You do know that there has been a string of articles about impropriety at the Wounded Warriors Project dating back to 2013, right?

How is 2016 “timely?”

A surprising number of WWII vets over the years have told me that they didn't think too highly of the Red Cross; many of them would then say something positive about the Salvation Army. I have since discovered that that a lot of WWI veterans expressed similar thoughts.

Just did a search on this. Apparently, they did charge for snacks during the war.

Supposedly, the Secretary of War demanded they charge because Brits had to pay and US didn’t have to pay and it was causing tension.

But to this day, you can hear complaints at the VFW’s from Vets.

Do you know how much it costs to have an office overlooking the D.C. Capital, own a box at the sports arenas and wine and dine the politico’s. It’s really very expensive. Don’t blame us. Blame the system.

“Why is NO ONE investigating our government spending!?”

People are invetigating. But the media cartel wants more government spending, and the love President Obama.

Investigations of government spending are meant for Republicans, not Democrats!

If you investigate government spending during the Obama regime, you are racist! /s

Trump will make sure that 6 million dollars he raised when spread around will be as if it were 12 million dollars.

I doubt Trump will do what other charities do, namely only give 50% of proceeds out to beneficiaries. Half or more of money raised is spent in fundraising etc. by regular charities.

Trump after vetting these groups from what I understand is just going divide up the money and cut checks without deducting any of his expenses. Very noble, extremely effective way of stretching every dollar, the Vets really deserve this kind of help where they are not taken advantage of.

Go Trump Go. Remember Fox news and Ted Cruz would only give money to the Vets with strings attached
