ALBANY, GA (WALB) - On Wednesday, a police officer was escorted from a classroom at Darton State College.

The officer is a student at the college, and was wearing his full police uniform.

The teacher was reportedly uncomfortable with having a gun in the classroom, and asked the officer to be escorted out.

The university has issued a statement, reading:

"Darton State College is appreciative for the service of our law enforcement, and welcome them as students on our campus. We have apologized to the officer for our misunderstanding when he attended class on our campus, and we regret this happened. We have met with the faculty and staff involved to reiterate the Georgia Law and Darton Policy." - Dr. Thomas Ormond, Interim Provost/VP for Academic & Student Affairs, Darton State College

Darton State College sounds like a good place to inspect when GA legislators write their higher education budget.

The cop might want to drop the class - I can predict what his grade is going to be.

The College name wasn’t familiar, and I was wondering if Albany State had changed its name to get away from its legacy. But this is the junior college there. Appears to be where the whites go.

Was thinking about the cops who mistook two hispanic ladies delivering papers in the wrong color truck, as Dorner.

National shooting stats don’t back you up.

I saw that in California back in the 1970s

Plus the fact that if he’s in uniform, he’s probably required to be armed at all times.

Obviously you have a problem with cops! Sheesh. Maybe you’d be more comfortable over at that other site.

Another activity was opening the hood of a vehicle and guys standing around staring at the engine. Not sure why, seems funny now.

back then the engines were worth staring at.

I vote that we all chip-in and send this "professor/instructor/teacher/whatever" a can of SILLY STRING for self-defense purposes.

Given that they include “Georgia Law” in their statement, there is probably a State law prohibiting such acts against police officers. That “professor” needs to spend some time with jails, lawyers, and judges. Seems she needs and attitude adjustment.

“Love guns, but why in hell would he feel a need to be in class in FULL UNIFORM..? I don’t get it.”

Maybe because he was coming from duty or going to duty immediately after??

Guess what? The military service members I know do the same thing. Gosh, maybe you paranoid hippies could come and chase them a way? Lay off the acid trips, they f’ you up.

"I am teaching an evening class at a local university; there are two sheriff’s deputies who are students, and they will come in full uniform and armed. I am totally unconcerned; they aren’t going to start a gunfight during the lecture."

Too bad it is a financial and logistical nightmare that these fine Sheriff's deputies couldn't take the liberal pantywaste in your class to the range and give them an intro to the 2nd amendment and firearm safety and basic shooting technique....

Sounds like the professor/instructor/adjunct springs from the same stock as one professor I had in college that got irritated when I attended class in my Army ROTC uniform due to having ROTC class right after that. This was in the immediate aftermath of Vietnam.

I suspect the uniform was almost as upsetting as the gun.

I agree

If I were teaching a class an armed police officer would be a plus in the class room.

An armed police officer in a uniform would be a plus walking the halls of the building I taught in.

Would be a plus walking the sidewalks.

A plus walking to his/her automobile

A trained extra set of eyes, armed if bad people are around.

I would still want my own personal defensive tool no matter how many uniforms were around.

Military people don’t don the garb of the enemy, by and large.

Try not to be quite as foolish as you naturally are, eh..?

Smarten up a bit. Don’t be a fool.

And don’t be an obsequious, cop-worshipping BOOT LICKER.
