A public high school has been accused of radical Islamic indoctrination by forcing children to profess the Muslim statement of faith, ordering them to memorize the Five Pillars of Islam and teaching that the faith of a Muslim is stronger than the average Christian, according to a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday.
Thomas More Law Center filed the lawsuit on behalf of John and Melissa Wood. They accuse La Plata High School in Maryland of subjecting their teenage daughter to Islamic indoctrination and propaganda. And when Mr. Wood complained â the school banned him from campus.
Defendants forced Woodâs daughter to disparage her Christian faith by reciting the Shahada, and acknowledging Mohammed as her spiritual leader,â Thomas More president Richard Thompson said.
The Shahada is the Islamic Creed, âThere is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.â
The Thomas More Law Center said that for non-Muslims, reciting the statement is sufficient to convert one to Islam.
âThe course also taught false statements such as Allah is the same God worshipped by Christians and Islam is a âreligion of peace,ââ Thompson said.
Good grief. It sounds as if somebody turned La Plata High School into a taxpayer-funded Madrassa.
A spokesperson for Charles County Public Schools told me they have not seen the lawsuit and declined to comment.
Also named as defendants were the Charles County Board of Education, principal Evelyn Arnold and vice-principal Shannon Morris.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court, alleges that students spent only one day studying Christianity and two weeks studying Islam.
âDuring its brief instruction on Christianity, Defendants failed to cover any portion of the Bible or other non-Islamic religious texts, such as the Ten Commandments,â the lawsuit states. âInstead, the class included disparaging remarks about Christianity and the Pope.â

...and how do you know that?
Give pillars of Islam:
—war
—rape
—slavery
—terrorism
—brutality
Oh, I wouldn't bet on that. For one, these are not ambulance-chasers that took their case. And, they run a heck of a risk owing damages to the school district for filing frivolous suit.
The creation of the Federal Department of Education is number two on the list of why America has been destroyed. Number one is school integration. Standards have had to be lowered and lowered and lowered so much that people of average intelligence have no access to knowledge.
FYATHYRIO, Dhimmi.
OMG Noob mistake, and I’m no noob. Replied to wrong poster. Please accept my most humble apologies. As for that other guy, well...
Actually, this is the most extreme violation of religious rights by a school district I've ever heard of. Why don't you do some research on Islam, and the Constitution, and shut your liberal yap?
Seriously? Could you expand on your opinion some more? The lawsuit sounds valid.
Tell me how, exactly, you would do that.
It’s part of the 7th social studies curriculum where I work and it’s part of our state curriculum.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
WTH is that all about.
Why should a public school be teacher various religions. They can’t even teach our own.
It’s like our culture is public enemy number one.
How do we plan to remain a thriving society if the basis for our moral code is relegated to inferior to other religions. And our policies seem to do that.
Am I reading this wrong?
The 7th grade social studies Curriculum in our state (NJ) focuses on Islam (for half the year). Christianity and Judaism is two Units, 6 weeks tops. Yeah, it’s real and no one seems to be complaining much except those who are slammed or shut up.
7th Grade Social Studies Curriculum used to be focused on the Constitution and Civics. Now, it’s mostly about Islam. I used to teach social studies, now Algebra and pre algebra and glad for it because I couldn’t teach what is being taught now.
It’s not just middle and high school social studies. It’s elementary too.
It’s glaringly apparent that few parents care about what is being taught in our public, private and Catholic schools.
You’re not reading this wrong.
If parents, and citizens, bothered to read the curriculum which is posted on every school district website, they’d see what is being taught to their kids.
Our Language Arts Curriculum and Social Studies Curriculum is interesting. And now our Math and Science Curriculum has followed suit. It’s amazing and horrifying. I don’t even know where to begin.
I was fortunate that my two oldest pretty much escaped it during their Catholic elementary ed and public high school ed. 3rd kid was on the borderline. Got some but still got a great education, Catholic and public. Last one, yeah, the curriculum was in full swing.
As a part time teacher and part time teacher assistant, I’ve seen what is happening (and has been happening for decades).
There is no strong backlash to this in education. The liberal agenda has taken over for the most part. Some areas are still protected but here even our best schools are screwed. We have no conservative support. Some have homeschooled (and I have a few of those kids who are now in my public school) and are now back in my school. The Catholic school isn’t any better.
Conservatives left our schools. There is little if any backlash. It’s so frustrating trying to fight this shit. I’m fortunate that my 4 kids got out (one still to go) and retained their mostly conservative viewpoints, especially concerning our government. But, we have lost education. What is being taught is outrageous, even what I’m supposed to teach in my algebra and pre algebra gifted classes.
7th grade social studies curriculum (in NJ)...yeah it’s all about Islam and that just astounds me.
The lawsuit is valid.
If it were my child, it’d be lucky if the principal weren’t countersuing for assault.
Thanks. What’s your thoughts on the United Nation’s baccalaureate program for high schools?
Yes, we yanked our kids so they could avoid the quagmire in the public school system.
The international program? If so, it sucks and is anti american. Is there another one?
I’m not as up to date as I’d like to be.
Yes. It’s the one that encourages a world view against the U. S., instead of studying our own culture and why it is superior.
I don’t mean that in an elitist way, but our kids are taught our values are no better than ANYONE elses.
They are undercutting loyalty to the United States.
