Trump is not childish or a spoiled brat. He has spoken the truth about important issues and has been viciously attacked for it.
A candidate and a president need to defend themselves when falsely and dishonestly attacked. They need to respond when subject to name calling and attempts at sabotage.
It seems Republican candidates have only two choices.
1. Strongly articulate your position and refuse to back down. You will then be called childish and a loud mouth.
2. Continually apologize when attacked and/or fail to respond. You will then be said to agree with the attacks and be seen as someone who can be pushed around.

I can't see myself voting for Mrs. Clinton or Bernie Sanders, or any Democrat for that matter, but Trump does worry me about scenarios like that.

Correct. Many people believe that Kennedy stared down the Soviets and made them remove their missiles from Cuba. Open the window wider and you see that the Soviets added missiles in Cuba in order to make the US remove missiles from Turkey. We did.
But at least Kennedy was cool headed about it.

Trump isn’t hollering in a vacuum. He doesn’t take pot shots based on some simmering discontent; he does shoot back and hard.
I'm a Cruzer that loves Thomas Sowell, and am OK with Trump.
Thomas Sowell, like many conservatives, has TDS and it has affected his logic and reason.
Any sane person, not effected by TDS, would know, without doubt, that Trump was joking and would NEVER utter the sentence, "Is it not an insult to his followers, if it is true?"
Thomas Sowell is usually fair and balanced but TDS will rot the human brain, much like mad cow disease. I will pray for Thomas Sowell.
He has boasted that his followers would stick by him even if he committed murder.
