I understand the phrase. But it wasn’t his money to give. So he left nothing on the table. Instead, he raised $5 million and gave of his own an additional $1 million.

The fact remains, he took care of the vets. The Cruz backers did not.

LOL no you don’t understand the phrase! Leaving money on the table has nothing to do with giving, it has everything to do with walking away from a deal and not GETTING the best deal that he could have gotten. He could have gotten an extra $1.5 million for the vets and he turned it down. Simple, really.
