To be fair, the health insurance market wasn’t free market before Obamacare either. It was free-er, but only by degree.
It was still a monopoly within each State and heavily regulated as to its offerings. You could shop around with insurers outside the State (or country for that matter). The difference was you didn’t have to participate.
Ooops I meant to say you could NOT shop around out of state.
All by design, to bring out calls for Single-Payer.
The way to lower prices is to encourage competition and allow people to choose a policy that fits their needs.
Obamacare happens to operate according to the opposite set of principles and no one likes it.
Unfortunately Liberals never believe that they’re wrong.
Only that EEEEEVIL Republicans have prevented them from executing their plans in the way it REALLY needs to be done.

I agree. However, I take issue with people who claim we had a free market in health insurance before Obamacare. We didn’t.
Rush touched on an interesting piece yesterday analyzing Millenials’ love affair with Bernie Sanders and Socialism.
According to the piece, we’ve actually been tinkering and distorting the free market for so long (primarily to benefit the Chamber of Commerce and their constituents) that young people have come to believe the entire concept is a crock.
Hence if the Government can pay to subsidize insurance companies and bail out GM, why can’t it pay my tuition?
This is not a lesson for anyone to learn from. THIS WAS A SOCIALIST EXPANSION OF THE WELFARE STATE with a large dose of new burden on those who pay full cost that will destroy much more of the middle class.
I pay $430 for a bronze plan with a $6500 deductible before I get service.
Losers win under Obamacare. They expanded medicare or have people like me funding the premium of others paying under $100 a month for a plan 7 times higher than I have.
If you are a broke joke you get better care.
There are no lessons for the payers who never backed Obamacare and this only made the takers believe this was an entitlement they always deserved without work.
We are going from a strong middle class with some poor and wealthy to a society of a wealthy class, a growing poor class, a dying middle class and a healthy cancerous government connected class of elites or beneficiaries.
Look at Bernie Sander's numbers. We have a huge problem with people who want stuff for free.
Yep, moral hazard and a massive (and stealthy) level.
My kids are Millenials. 90% of their friends are onboard with Bernie.
Shopping across state lines would have lowered the cost of health insurance for sure. But that’s really not what Obama wanted anyway. And Tort Reform. But the Dems get waaaaaaay too much money from lawyers for Tort Reform to ever be suggested by a Dem.
The intent of liberals was (and is) not to improve healthcare, but to destroy the insurers and healthcare as we have known it.
When those things are accomplished (and they are getting closer to their goals every year) “people” will clamor for the government to step in and fill the void.

Just a remembrance. A friend went on a good will tour of the USSR in the 80’s. They toured a hospital lab where the pap smear slides were read by the technologists, the cells were scraped off, the slides cleaned and then used again. I guess at least that way, no one could take a look back and see if there had been any mistakes. People who want single payer should really have to live with it for a couple of years.....they would be begging for good care. Unfortunately, people have been indoctrinated that doctors are just greedy and health insurance is a scam.
You pay very high monthly premiums but you still have zero healthcare as you next have a very high deductible.
No one has any healthcare insurance except the politicians who exempted themselves from obamacare!
People who pay taxes in society already knew that.
The takers will never care.
There’s knowing it as in a piece of data, and then there’s KNOWING IT as in having it rubbed in your face.
