‘He now claims it was all part of the poison pill Jedi mind trick.’

Rush agrees with Cruz’ claim of a poison pill tactic. A quote taken out of context.

Truth is — Cruz and Trump are both for safe borders. Neither of them are villains.

Cruz, however, has worked with lawyers and legislators for a long, long time. Not enough ‘real world’ experience. Tougher time connecting with someone normal.

Nor has any president since Ike had more executive experience than Trump — especially from an international perspective.

Same with Trade. He supported TPA, even co-wrote an article with Paul Ryan, which cleared the path for TPP. Then he came out against TPP.

His wife was part of the CFR, which supported the North American Union. This would have given us open borders for Canada, US, and Mexico. But Ted is against open borders.

Thank you for that post. I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said and can wholly understand if that is the criteria by which one makes their choice. It is not my criteria, but I can understand if it is someone else’s.

“It appears Trump avoided a minefield tonight.”

Trump won the debate!

“A debate isn’t supposed to be a mine field.”

Does not questioning a candidates background and how their positions may have changed apply to Hillary Clinton too or only Trump?

In the videos, Cruz said many times he wanted the bill to pass, meaning legal status. He talked about them coming out of the shadows, etc. Staying here and being legal.

I’ve seen other videos where he said he wanted legal status.

Only now that Trump has been popular with deportation has Cruz changed his mind. In the beginning of the campaign Cruz refused to say what his plan was. He even condescendingly said “The American people don’t want to have that conversation.”

Legal status is amnesty. It would make all their children citizens and of course, groups would eventually say it’s not fair they pay taxes but cannot vote. They would eventually get citizenship.

Thank you for your posts! I will watch this. I have a much better understanding now about what happened.

Although I’m not for Cruz for a variety of reasons it does appear he tried to stop this but ultimately other forces took it down. The Cantor defeat angle is very interesting.
Looks like We The People actually had the effect we’re supposed to when we put our minds to it.

It depends on what the meaning of questioning is. :-)

From what I can tell as I predicted Cruz got rolled. I think center stage wasn’t as much fun as he thought it would be.

You might want to pat yourself on the back, you’ve just helped DJT demonize FOX news so that in the general election Hillary or any other dem doesn’t have to face any questions from the “unfair” network just the dems fawning allies in the MSM.

Congratulations you earned it.

The Republican front runner already looking to the general for independents, union and black votes fights with a network most American feels is strictly Republican.

That’s a win for Trump and the Republican Party.

After Mitt lost the RNC came out saying they needed to expand their voter base. Trump will accomplish that.

Sure thing...regardless of whether it was a poison pill or not, I give Cruz a lot of credit at the back end. Not only did he fight against the bill at the end, there was also an attempt in Jan, 2014 to ‘get something done’ in the House on Immigration, called the Standards for Immigration Reform...which could have EASILY led to passage of the Senate nightmare. Cruz got on This Week (I think), said it was a sell out to the Amnesty crowd and that promptly ended the effort. It may be touched on in that PBS show, don’t remember.

I give Cruz a LOT OF CREDIT at the back end, but the poison pill part simply doesn’t make sense to me - it really does look like he wanted the Senate bill to pass, if they stripped citizenship from it.

Okay. So poison pill.

But it was granting a work permit, legal status to millions of illegals.

Correct ?

Had it passed what would have been the result?

Legal status but not citizenship (voting status).

So is “amnesty” legal status or citizenship?

And thank you for your post.

Cruz is my 2 guy and I want him on SCOTUS. Not sure why there’s such a shooting war but that’s Republicans for ya. L. We eat our own.

I held my nose twice and voted for the RINO in an attempt to stop the Kenyan Usurper. Many on these boards stayed home. Ridiculous.

Cruz needed to dumb down his explanation.

I shared Christie’s exasperation with it.

“Democrats want votes. The Republican establishment wants cheap labor. Who does that hurt? You. The American workers. Including those who have followed the law to be here.”

Clear. Concise. Not lawyerly and obtuse.

I don’t disagree with that.

I’ve a feeling there’s some secret Senate code that says you can’t ever admit to submitting poison pills....based on nothing but my own gut.

"Rush agrees with Cruz' claim of a poison pill tactic."

Rush tried to explain it, and did a horribly convoluted job of it. That's not the same as agreement. Key quote from the transcript "So I'm defending nobody here. "

Rush transcript-->Bottom Line: Marco Rubio Was One of the Gang of Eight -- And Ted Cruz Wasn't

IMO This portion is closer to reality.

" He was clear not just in proposing it, but in the appearance he made at Princeton talking about this, that he offered the amendment as a compromise because he wanted to see it pass. See, the two stories of Cruz are that he actually offered this amendment to take out the citizenship plank because he wanted the Gang of Eight bill to pass so that he could say down the road that he had voted for and been a participant in a compromise piece of legislation, that he had worked with people and had helped get something done, and so he was not presenting his amendment as a poison pill when he was talking to certain groups.

That is the opposite of a poison pill. "
