Donald Trump Is Shocking, Vulgar and Right
Politico ^ | 1/28/16 | Tucker Carlson

Posted on 01/28/2016 4:15:16 PM PST by Amntn

About 15 years ago, I said something nasty on CNN about Donald Trump's hair. I can't now remember the context, assuming there was one. In any case, Trump saw it and left a message the next day. "It's true you have better hair than I do," Trump said matter-of-factly. "But I get more pussy than you do."

At the time, I'd never met Trump and I remember feeling amused but also surprised he'd say something like that. Now the pattern seems entirely familiar. The message had all the hallmarks of a Trump attack: shocking, vulgar and indisputably true.

Not everyone finds it funny. On my street in Northwest Washington, D.C., there's never been anyone as unpopular as Trump. The Democrats assume he's a bigot, pandering to the morons out there in the great dark space between Georgetown and Brentwood. The Republicans (those relatively few who live here) fully agree with that assessment, and they hate him even more. They sense Trump is a threat to them personally, to their legitimacy and their livelihoods. Idi Amin would get a warmer reception in our dog park.

Snip...Let that sink in. Conservative voters are being scolded for supporting a candidate they consider conservative because it would be bad for conservatism? And by the way, the people doing the scolding? They're the ones who've been advocating for open borders, and nation-building in countries whose populations hate us, and trade deals that eliminated jobs while enriching their donors, all while implicitly mocking the base for its worries about abortion and gay marriage and the pace of demographic change. Now they're telling their voters to shut up and obey, and if they don't, they're liberal.

Tucker Carlson gets it. Well worth reading the entire piece.

I’m sure Cruz supporters will jump on the first paragraph but the rest of the piece is on the money.

He truly really won’t be showing up for the GOP debate tonight on Fox News Channel, but Donald Trump still proved a ratings gift once again to the cable newser – at least last night. A heavily promoted interview on The O’Reilly Factor with the former Apprentice host and leading Republican POTUS candidate drew 3.79 million viewers and 642,000 adults 25-54. That made The Factor the most watched show on cable last night – topping even The Big Bang Theory repeat’s 3.1 million viewers.

Considering where he lives and who his associates are, Carlson shows courage in holding this opinion.

“Considering where he lives and who his associates are, Carlson shows courage in holding this opinion.”

Absolutely. Carson is exhibiting courage and speaking Truth to Power.

Of course, one could look at this from a Machiavellian angle (what other angle is possible from where Carson lives) and say that he is reading the tea leaves and positioning himself in the winning camp.

You may be right about the twitting. But he's got this piece nailed to the Politico wall, and it shines. I recommend you read the whole thing. Trouble is, too often on this site, people condemn the personality without reading the message. Sometimes even a blind twit can find an acorn. Or something.

I usually don't care much for Tucker Carlson, but looks like he does get it this time:

Pretty embarrassing. And yet they're not embarrassed. Many of those same overpaid, underperforming tax-exempt sinecure-holders are now demanding that Trump be stopped. Why? Because, as his critics have noted in a rising chorus of hysteria, Trump represents "an existential threat to conservatism."

There's been a long dry spell of conservative successes under the stewardship of our current conservative leadership and thinkers.

I don’t find it surprising at all. Trump has mentioned in interviews that he has sex for recreation. Didn’t he also meet his stripper wife at a club ? I don’t care particularly as long as it doesn’t make the man a misogynist. And no one really knows how conservative or not he is.

Angelo Codevilla's article on the city party versus the country party from 2010 was a masterpiece, but this article covers similar territory in a shorter, pithier manner.

Thank you for posting.

GOP getting what it so richly deserves.
