CHICAGO - Forty-two people have been killed and 210 wounded so far in January, almost doubling last year's numbers.
It was the most violent January in years, according to DNAinfo Chicago data: In all, there were 199 shootings Jan. 1-25, while there were just 100 shootings over the same period last year. The data doesn't include the victims of violence from Tuesday into Wednesday, when three people were killed and another wounded.
Through early Tuesday, 42 people had been shot dead and 210 wounded, while last January saw 22 people dead and 98 wounded in shootings. On Monday alone, five people were shot and killed in just 11 hours.
The month of soaring shooting numbers follows a rise in gun violence throughout all of 2015. Last year saw 2,427 shootings and 468 homicides, the highest those numbers have been since 2012, when the city had 2,451 shootings and 506 homicides.

Hey according to Obama, its because of Indiana that gun crime is so high in Chicago(Yet in Indiana you don’t hear about 42 murders in 1 month) when its black on black crime, not a peep from the media..only when a cop kills a black person then the media is up in arms.

Because the gangs are essential components of the Democrat political machine. Can't annoy them too much -- but it's okay to annoy the harmless suburban and rural voters -- who will never vote for a Democrat, ever.

Well -- it IS a success. Sort of. Household firearm ownership is lowest among urban minorities. The gangsters who have guns are the ones who "need" guns. For business. None of that 2nd Amendment "rights" stuff or "want" stuff
With those stats it seems they have a very solid work ethic in Chicago.
You bet they do! Why, some of those folks have to get up at 3:00 and 4:00 AM to get the shooting done!
I emailed Mayor Emanuel asking why they did not deputize the “Million Moms for Gun Sense” (conveniently located less than 120 miles away), combine them with Homeland Security and the BATF, and go into the hood and clean out all the illegal guns.
Never got a reply.
Well, they won’t do it because they are racists— that’s why. Blacks get a pass on murder in Chicago.
Chicago, the test laboratory that proves that more and more Common Sense and Reasonable Gun Laws do not reduce crime.
If Indiana was the problem, wouldn’t shootings also be higher to the north, east, and south?
How come those guns sold in Indiana that stay in Indiana don’t go out of control and shoot people at nearly the rate those that end up in Chicago do? (Bet you already know the answer).
I would say they are off to a good start. I guess the police are not “policing” as much as they have been in the past. Just let the thugs kill each other off.
Chicago (south side mainly) has been a zoo since I lived in Brookfield in the 1960’s. The rest of the city is wonderful, but there is an “element” in that part of town that is virtually beyond salvation.
