The gloves are coming off in Iowa, as the leading candidates in both parties battle fiercely for advantage before Mondayâs caucuses. I have been a political junkie since the days when I hired a TV repair guy to run a new cable so I could see the lone TV from the kitchen back in the “Watergate” days,, but I am absolutely SICK of the ads, the mail and the phone calls. I anxiously await the seedcorn and herbicide commercials that will miraculously turn up on my TV on Feb. 2.
I bet the phones are ringing off the hook too, with push polls and other manipulative traffic.
The calls are mostly robo calls talking up individual candidates,, with a few polls trying to get us to indicate who we will caucus for. I am still undecided. I will analyze the final polls and figure out what I need to do.
Vote your conscience. I often no-vote, or pull for a candidate that has no prayer of winning the election. It's just one vote!
I don’t usually answer the home phone but I made the mistake of doing so one evening last week. It was a poll and the young woman on the phone asked if I was in a safe place to answer some questions. She then absolutely mispronounced caucus and I asked her to repeat what she said and she mispronounced it again—and badly. I gave her some advice which I am sure she found helpful and hung up. I really do not have any confidence in the polling.
Take heart; the Iowa Power Farming Show will be in downtown Des Mones in a couple of weeks.
A sure sign the politicians and media have left Iowa! Yeah!
