With the bromance between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump over, the mogul turned GOP front-runner has begun trash talking the senator from Texas. "He's a nasty guy," Trump recently huffed. "Nobody likes him. Nobody in Congress likes him. Nobody likes him anywhere once they get to know him." For members of the politerati, this was no revelation. As Cruz has quickly climbed the political ladder, he has left a long line of associates who complain, without much prompting, that he is an insufferable schmuck.
A prominent aide to George W. Bush's 2000 campaign could barely contain himself when we asked him to discuss Cruz, who worked in the campaign's policy shop. This person described Cruz as hyper-arrogant and widely despised, and he emphasized--over and over--that the pervasive dislike of Cruz within the Bush ranks had nothing to do with ideology. (Cruz, he noted, never objected to Bush's call for compassionate conservatism, immigration reform, and national education standards, and no one on the campaign regarded him as an ideologue.) The problem was simple: his personality. "That's exactly what he was: a big asshole," says a campaign veteran who worked with Cruz.
"Ted thought he was an expert on everything," says this campaign veteran, who asked not to be named. "He was a smart and talented guy, but completely taken with himself and his own ideas. He would offer up opinions on everything, even matters outside his portfolio. He was a policy guy, but he would push his ideas on campaign strategy. He would send memos on everything to everyone. He would come to meetings where he wasn't invited--and wasn't wanted." In fact, this Bush alum recalls, "the quickest way for a meeting to end would be for Ted to come in. People would want out of that meeting. People wouldn't go to a meeting if they knew he would be there. It was his inability to be part of the team. That's exactly what he was: a big asshole."
The Bush vet goes on: "I don't know anyone who had a decent relationship with Cruz." And when Bush became president, his top campaign aides agreed Cruz should not be offered a job in the White House. "No one wanted to work with him," this source remembers. "George W. Bush couldn't stand the guy."
They previewed Trumps interview with Wolf Blitzed this morning on CNN. Trump decided to go with “whack-job” instead of “whacko-bird” in describing Cruz. Trump is going to run his mouth out of this campaign.
Cruz has all the right enemies.
“Cruz sounds like one of those brilliant minds that just has no personality.
Put him on the Supreme Court”
Make him AG and turn him loose on all the corruptocrats.
“George W. Bush couldn’t stand the guy.”
you mean the guy that considers the rapist a brother? The guy who’s grandfather funded the nazis? Who’s father was running coke with your brother in Mena?
I am not so sure either, but on the other hand, if the Purple/Blue states are willing to vote for Hillary or Bernie, I don't think an election is ever going to fix the problem.
Hillary and Bernie would be laughed off the stage in a rational nation.
That's the real question. Sure rather have a half of a loaf than none & a supreme court full of leftists.
Trump already said that. Heard Rush say it today.
This is true. You just cannot go to war. You also need to form sufficient friendships, coalitions and alliances. Cruz did not and so was not able to get things done. It will be the same with Cruz as President. He won’t be able to get anything done. Then he’ll be attacked by media. Become a lameduck. And the Democrats will be back in 4 years. Good luck with that.
If that were to happen, the corruptocrats would never recover.
The charge of having Cruz having many personality conflicts seems to be true.
Seems that way, doesn’t it? Of course, Mother Jones is not known for their impartiality, are they?
Plug Trump’s name in there and it’s doubly true. Unless he’s now committed to working with the other side to ‘get things done’ like Boehner and McConnell.
Pshaw! I bet he beats his wife and kicks his dog..
/sarc
This sounds exactly like a Nicolle Wallace trashing Sarah Palin.
“Sure rather have a half of a loaf than none& a supreme court full of leftists.”
Trump thinks his leftist, liberal sister would make a great, tremendous, amazing, best ever Supreme Court Justice.
First generation immigrant’s son trying to be the ever-successful W.A.S.P.
Maybe that Andy Griffith guitar-playing radio singing schmuck who rose to his own toppling?
So - who you gonna believe? I took the time to read the American Thinker article that SeekandFind posted a link to in post #7. From that article, written by someone who has worked closely with Cruz for over two years:
“All in all, I cannot recall a single instance when I did not enjoy interacting with Ted professionally. He not only displayed a consistent winning temperament throughout the time we were together, but did so in a way that drew out the highest quality of professional thinking from those with whom he worked and supervised.”
It’s a very interesting article from someone who was willing to put his name on it, as opposed to an anonymous source. Worth anyone’s time to read, unless they hate Cruz, and then it would just make them mad.
P.S. I will vote Trump if he’s the nominee.
Will Trump it’s straight up. With Cruz, beta male being something akin to passive-aggressive behavior.
I read it, too, and had the same reaction. I do know a guy who worked on Cruz’ senate campaign and said he’ll never vote for the guy again, but my acquaintance is also the type to expect special access after a victory.
