Geez, does anybody need any further proof that Trump simply thinks like a liberal East Coast democrat??? He told us from the start, he’s running “AS” a conservative republican. He just really ISN’T one.

I believe he is on point by skewering big pharma as a self serving lobby that influences the GOP stance

In principle any bulk buyer of a product or servuce should be able to negotiate on costs

Price controls would be like a ball and chain to the pharmaceutical companies.

I was healthy most of my life and hardly ever prescribed drugs, so I was fairly oblivious to their costs.
However, now that I'm older - been on Medicare (Advantage) for 4 years - I've had a few problems and the price of some of the drugs is staggering.
Insurance helps - but now the insurance companies have added prescription deductibles to their policies. Friggin' thieves.

Outside of it being forbidden by the 2003 law, why would Medicare NOT negotiate with the pharma companies over the cost of drugs?

I get the feeling that Trump wants to see just how far left he can go before he starts losing support. He really believes what he said over the weekend - there’s not much he could do for his supporters to stop supporting him. And they seem to be proving him right. Here he advances what is a classic leftist Dem proposal to get government even MORE involved in out healthcare, and his supporters are saying why this is such a good idea.

This will mean more monetary contributions to politicians and their “foundations” by drug companies, which is what the crooks really want.

Can it really be called “negotiation” when the federal government is telling you what you must accept?

A better option would be to allow Americans to buy prescription drugs from foreign pharmacies.

There is no reason for Americans to foot the entire bill for drug research.

It looks like in the end that Trump is not going to be so good as we hoped. One could start with removing the laws make it illegal for someone to buy prescription drugs overseas and import them back to the US. We are talking about the same drugs made by the same companies being sold at a mere fraction of the cost overseas. And congress has passed special law to protect this behavior. The governments involvement in Health Care is the reason that its hopelessly screwed up in the first place.
