Inside a secure conference room on the sixth floor of the Justice Department in early 2014, top federal law enforcement officials gathered to hear what criminal charges prosecutors were contemplating against David H. Petraeus, the storied wartime general and former CIA director whose public career had ended about 15 months earlier over an extramarital affair.
Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and FBI Director James B. Comey listened as prosecutors did a mock run-through of the government's case, a preview of how they would present their evidence to Petraeus's lawyers in order, they hoped, to force a guilty plea.
The Justice Department has never discussed how it reached its decision to accept a plea on the lesser charge. But six current and former U.S. officials, as well as others familiar with the case, provided the first detailed look at the internal debates and wrangling with Petraeus's lawyers that took place before the retired four-star general entered his guilty plea in federal court in Charlotte. All spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private legal deliberations.

WAPO setting the stage for a Clinton acquittal, deal, or no charges at all. They are softening the public
The deal will be cut:
Hillary bows out and backs Obama’s guy Biden.
She gets pardoned on his last day in office. “For the good of the country... to move on.. etc.”
She and bill can go back to bilking taxpayers and foreign governments with their ‘foundation’ and Obama will have his man for a 3rd term.
More important, Obama’s will control the Dem money machine for DECADES to come.
This is the Washington Post telling the Justice Department to go easy on Mrs. Clinton.
I always felt that Broadwell was a honey pot trap and the Democrats feared he would be a formidable opponent in a presidential race. Would not be surprised to learn that at least one tentacle came from Clintons direction.
He should ha e been busted down to private and spent his life out in prison.
Obama is done for after the Elections. He'll be extremely toxic. He'll have no more influence than say Jesse Jackson at his peak. Any spies or operatives he left in career position will be hunted down relentlessly by a Trump administration.
He just might end up leaving the country and settling in Dubai.
Please fix the title for me.
My, my, my.
Is that sweat I see over at The Washington Post?
Maybe there's some truth to it.
I think Obama is going to try his hand on the world stage and find that the world really doesn't want him.
Unfortunately there're plenty of idiots who will pay him and Michelle plenty to speak to attend their events.
There is no full justice or fairness in this life.
That’s just about the way I see it. Petraeus should get the pardon, not Clinton.
THERE’S GOING TO BE WAR IF THEY TRY THIS SCAM.
From your lips to God’s ears. I hope you’re right.
You just know it too.
Rules for thee but not for me.Its so much more common these days.
I generally agree, there’s not much left for Obama except to write another book or two (ghost-written of course). There is talk of him applying for the UN General Director job....but you’d have to have all of the big five agree...with I don’t see Trump signing off on that or Putin. This influence peddling business will end at the front door as he exits....other than golfing seven days a week....there’s nothing else.
This makes me laugh a bit. You are not on the CAS mailing list are you?
I wrote up a big long prediction in 2010 and various scenarios about the 2012, 2014 and 2016 election cycles and presented it on that mailing list and I got several from your lips to God s ears
I can say today that we are still within the envelope of everything I wrote.
Fhios ag duine éigin a n-Ghaelach.
too bad I had to use a translator.
How can they justify going after Petaeus yet again, four years after the matter was supposedly settled, and at the same time, justify not seeking an indictment against Hillary?
