I don’t think Trump is a doctrinaire conservative.
He is conservative where it counts.
Stopping the illegal alien inundation, which few of the so-called conservatives at NR have given much more than lip service to and some are actually paid cheerleaders for The Cheap Labor Express, is the paramount issue.
Where is that?
His immigration plan is merely touchback amnesty dressed up in a nice suit. Touchback said every illegal had to go home and then they could apply to come back. Bingo -- the Trump plan!
He says he will repeal every Obama executive order, but he says he'll replace them with "good ones." While I'm sure I'd like his executive orders better than Zero's, he really doesn't understand the problem with executive governance.
He ha praised single payer, as recently as the first debate.
He's flipped and flopped all over the life issue.
He says his pro-abort sister would make a great Supreme Court justice, raising concerns that he's likely to nominate judges like her.
These are just a few concerns.
Immigration controls ( not stopping it and not permanently expelling people willing to retroactively apply legally to come here and work)
Restoring sanity to our economy and structuring it to grow
Respecting the religious beliefs of individual Americans instead of running an executive branch that is hostile to Christianity and preferential to islam
Respect for the power of our miitary and economic rivals ( Russia and China) but dealing with them to uphold American interests as primary - not alternately name calling, ignoring, snubbing Russia and bowing and scraping to China
True compassion and respect for the military including veterans
Roping congress including the democrats and the private sector into working together not to enrich a lobby but in restoring affordable personalized healthcare choices
If that is all we get from Trump’s first 4 years and which seems eminently likely, then hallelujah
Note that the terms “ conservatism” “ abortion” “ war against Russia/ SYRIA/ Iran” and “deportation “ are missing from the above list
Call me a common sense sellout from “conservatism “ which has become just as loony as the left and just as destructive to our national fabric
