'Sister Wives' case: Will polygamy become legal in Utah?
MSN News ^ | Jan 22, 2016 | Max Lewontin

A family made famous by the reality show "Sister Wives" is calling on a Utah appeals court to uphold a ruling that essentially decriminalized polygamy, saying the state's historic ban on the practice raises constitutional issues about freedom of religion, association, and privacy rights of consenting adults.

Kody Brown and his four wives - Meri, Jangle, Christine and Robyn - who began appearing on the TLC reality show in 2010, filed suit against the state of Utah challenging the state's ban.

If it was only the mormons that wanted it, this would go nowhere, but since muslims also would want it, it will probably pass no problem.

God never approved of polygamy.

Other than the fact that

- Levirate marriage law makes no allowances or exceptions should the marriage result in polygamy.

- King David was called a man after God’s own heart and he had 8 wives

- King Solomon asked for and was granted wisdom and he had wives in the hundreds

All of the arguments for same sex marriage are arguments for plural marriage.

Well, not quite. The contractual issues are much different if you have three people involved. That being said, the real challenge should be incest. That's the one that's toughest to distinguish.

Sure, you can talk about genetic issues, but that has nothing to do with copulation, not marriage. I t is perfectly legal for people in an incestuous relationship to live together and have sex, so refusing to recognize it as a marriage doesn't avoid the harm.

That being said, it was a completely results-oriented decision by the Court, so expecting logical consistency is a pipe dream.

And there have already been some high profile attempts by same sex couple to make it a trio.
And that’s aside from the lesbians that added a guy and made two babies gushing article that came out a few months ago ...
To top it off, unlike same sex marriage, you can see a lot of Muslims backing this legal change, with Saudis pouring money into the law being overturned.

Issac and Rebecka are the Biblical ideal. There was never a polygamous marriage therein that didn’t generate problems.

No reason it shouldn’t if same sex is legal.

Yep. And frankly, I don't care if it is legalized with the following provisions: (1) all participants in a plural marriage are 21 years of age and (2) there is no government assistance provided. I hear that some of these people that have 20 kids or so are soaking in the welfare benefits.

King David also sent Bathseba’s husband to the front lines to be killed so he could have her. King David may have been a man after God’s heart but he was still a sinner and God did not approve of him having multiple wives. Polygamy causes jealousy and turmoil in the family as the wives politic for their son to be next in line for the throne. Solomon may have been granted wisdom, but he committed a great sin when he tried to appease his foreign wives by allowing them to build temples to and worship their false gods.

It should be legal—1. Its Biblical (Solomon had 500 wives)
2. Its Historical (Mormons who founded Utah did it) 3. Native Ameerican did it as well. 4. They are doing in private now—this way the children of the second and third wives will have some legal protection and be recognized. Not everyone will go for this but some will and may find it a lifestyle they enjoy.

It may be Biblical but IMO is far from common sense.

Women, can't live with them, can't live with them...

What about a woman married to a roller coaster? It actually happened in Canada. Some people are sexually attracted to the vibration of machines. The love that dare not speak its name.

I propose that with polygamy there will be no need for divorce, everyone just marry others. This will cut out the lawyers.

When a baby mama has a half-dozen kids by six different fathers, and the fathers are similarly unfaithful, isn’t that polygamy in fact if not in name?

While much of what you said is true, the sins you mention are not the sins of polygamy. In fact, Gods law does not prohibit polygamy and goes even further by providing rules / laws for the treatment of wives (plural). As one example, The Law stated that a man could take another wife as long as he still provided for his first wife (Exo.21:10)

Further, In 2 Samuel 12:7-8, God gave David multiple wives as a blessing.

And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

8 And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.

9 Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

This is during King David’s rebuke for killing Uriah and it goes directly to refute your assertion that God never condoned polygamy.

My assertion is that there is far more support in the Bible FOR polygamy than there is for homosexuality which was a sin that called for stoning as punishment.

It already IS legal in Mormonland! The so-called “authorities” = Mormons, Mormon sympathizers, those afraid to “rock the cult’s boat” have looked the other way and not prosecuted known instances of polygamy throughout the state of Mormonland for years!

God never approved of polygamy.

It is not forbidden by Mosaic Law and there is no punishment for it under the written law. That is tacit approval at the very least considering that common things today (mixing thread types in clothing, worshiping a deity other than Yahweh, a woman not being a virgin on her wedding day) are stoning offenses.
