Ted Cruz revealed on Thursday that he is not currently covered by any health insurance, chalking up the lack of coverage to Obamacare.
"I'll tell you, you know who one of those millions of Americans is who's lost their health care because of Obamacare? That would be me," Cruz told a Manchester, New Hampshire, audience. "I don't have health care right now."
Cruz explained that he had purchased an individual policy and that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas had canceled all of its individual policies in Texas, effective Dec. 31. Cruz and his wife, Heidi, who is on temporary leave from her job with Goldman Sachs, purchased an individual plan last year after previously receiving coverage through the Wall Street firm. A spokeswoman for Cruz's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment to clarify his remarks.
"So our health care got canceled, we got a notice in the mail, Blue Cross Blue Shield was leaving the market. And so we're in the process of finding another policy," Cruz said. "I hope by the end of the month we'll have a policy for our family. But our premiums â we just got a quote, our premiums are going up 50 percent. That's happening all over the country. That's happening in New Hampshire."
It would appear that news of the cancellation did not go over well in the Cruz household.

Hey, spinmeister, he also announced they were dropping the coverage when she took the leave of absence. Since a half truth with intent to deceive equals a lie....
Anyone with a problem pulling the lever for Cruz can always vote for Hillary or Bernie or Uncle Joe.
So true. It's getting harder and harder to go to FR anymore.
I’ve been leaning Trump, since I don’t like Goldman Sachs’ New York values, but you liars are really turning me off. If you can’t win with the truth, you really don’t deserve to win.
RE: Cruz voted to fast-track TPP knowing Obama considers TPP central to his presidential legacy and to his foreign policy and economic legacies.
While Cruz initially voted for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), a bill that gives Obama fast-track trade authority when it came up for a vote in May 2015, he voted AGAINST the final passage in the Senate in June citing his disapproval with the “corruption” and “back room dealings” involved with the legislation.
So, how is that helping Goldman Sachs?
Shouldn’t he be VOTING FOR the TPA?
The above is IFFY at best.
RE: Cruz’s vote on the Corker bill is a landmine......Corker rallying the radical left to protect Obama on the $150 billion Iran nuclear deal giveaway.
That is one of his mistakes (I don’t excuse him for his tactical mistake ), but hey, he FOUGHT AGAINST the Iran deal.
IN FACT, Cruz introduced legislation that would re-impose certain relaxed sanctions on Iran. He also introduced a resolution delineating steps the Government of Iran must take before President Obama meets with the President of Iran, and before further bilateral negotiations between the Government of Iran and the United States government occur.
So, again, where does is action benefit Goldman Sachs?
I need SPECIFIC EVIDENCE — Goldman telling Cruz, WE WANT YOU TO SPONSOR OR SUPPORT A SPECIFIC BILL.
RE: G/S hires many H-1B visa holders.
American workers DESPISE H1B Visas. A massive expansion of H1Bs puts struggling Americans out of work.
I’ll grant that he previously supported increases in H1-B.
However, now — Cruz is calling for a 180 day moratorium on the issuance of H1B visas to study the reports of abuse in the program. How is that helping the G-S agenda?
Shouldn’t he be SUPPORTING instead of calling for the moratorium?
So, the evidence you cite is not at all clear as to how he is DIRECTLY helping Goldman Sachs.
I find Trumps personality repulsive. I am still voting for him.
Amen, FRiend.
I rather doubt you are leaning Trump. As far as lying is concerned, check out Cruz’s campaign consultant, Jeff Roe, who had based a career on that.
“Don’t let your CDS make you jump to unsubstantiated conclusions...”
Now the Cruz team is copying acronyms? Copying policies isn’t enough?
As pointed out by others Cruz is the one who made this a topic for discussion, I could care less.
He is a senator. All congress critters are covered.
Aren't you just precious? You actually think Trumpkins came up with that acronym??? Version of that acronym go back to the Bush administration - first BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome), then PDS (Palin), etc.
Just like Trumpkins to take an idea that has been promoted for years (like the wall), then claim Trump invented it and anyone else who talks about it is copying Trump...
But instead, his family decided to purchase an off-exchange plan on the open market from Texas Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
I put it in big, bold type for you so you don't miss it this time.
So this is wrong?
“Cruz Signing Up for Obamacare” The Hill

Yes the Cruz family is not taking a chance by letting a lapse in insurance occur while they shop for a new policy. It happens to many people I have had it happen to me. Its not any of our business anyway.
I am very skeptical of the conservatism of people such as yourself who joined Free Republic AFTER Obama’s SECOND presidential bid, especially when they feel very comfortable hurling slanderous insults at the most conservative candidate in the race.
Maybe you are sincere. And perhaps sincerely wrong.
But maybe you are a troll here to undermine the conservative purpose of this site.
Or maybe you are a middle of the road moderate who hates Cruz because of his extreme conservatism. Perhaps you favor a milquetoast moderate who does not go as far left as Obama but is really just Democrat light.
Regardless of your reasons, Cruz is exceptionally more honest than most other candidates in this race. Just because you do not like him or his answers does not make his answers lies.
Whether he had or has insurance through his wife’s job is a legitimate question. Calling him a liar without knowing the current answer that question is foolish.
Real human being rather than a Stalin-like robot you evidently prefer. Stop nitpicking. If you disagree with policy positions or voting records, make your case.
While the rest of the voters may care what Obama’s favorite ice cream flavor is, conservatives care whether a candidate will faithfully support conservative legislation, which I think Cruz has consistently done.
We do not need to decide who the next president is based on whether we like the direction he parts his hair.
The titanic is sinking, and some people here seem to want to debate about how the deck chairs are lined up.
From the article: âCruz explained that he had purchased an individual policy and that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas had canceled all of its individual policies in Texas, effective Dec. 31.â
From the context, I suspect he was talking about all individual ‘PPO’s, which they did.
