These were not SIM cards; they would probably have been SCIP encryption cards. While almost useless without the keys, it appears the phones were not zeroed and destroyed as is standard procedure. Seizing operable phones would possibly enable immediate decryption (for as long a period until the system is rekeyed) and also offers reverse engineering opportunity.
I cannot think of any circumstance where a secure comm system wouldn’t be zeroed if compromise were imminent. It is almost as ridiculous as stating that you didn’t realize TK material was classified before you sent it to your home computer.
Everyone with access knows these recurrent security breaches defy statistical probability. They are being orchestrated at the highest levels. Is there not one honest person left in the entire government who will do their job and pursue these criminals?
So, who’s going to present the EVIDENCE to the President, and request (or DEMAND) his resignation ..????????
Don’t worry .. I already know the answer .. and I won’t be holding my breath.
I believe they were under orders .. do what you’re told, or you’re dead.
To me, there is no other explanation.
What tipped me off .. the comment that some of them were crying .. that told me they were under duress .. forced to do something that was totally against what they had been trained to do.

It’s been said that one should not attribute to malice that which can be attributed to incompetence and stupidity.
However, this could be a case of “all of the above”.
This seems to be missing from the equation.
USS Harry Truman fired upon, just days before, rocket came with in 1500 feet of the Carrier. It was kept under wraps. Calling it a test. Which I very much doubt, firing on a US Ship is an act of War which several of our presidents have ignored, it’s not just DUMBO.
