“I’m more into candidates who try to lift us to the better angels of ourselves”
I don’t think that’s who we have to be right now. In fact, we can’t afford to. I see where we have a need to win by any means necessary. The time for being thought of as “the better angels of ourselves” has, for the time being, long-since passed. We can return to that endeavor after we know the way is clear enough to make some real progress.
I am not very familiar with the author, but if he is going to borrow from a Lincoln speech, he should not have butchered it. An egregious and unforgivable error. It should be, “....better angels of our nature.....”
