For Chinese regime, things had been going as planned at first. Then huge political backlash in Taiwan erupted. Now it was Beijing's turn to panic. They suddenly changed their tune, backing away from their initial responses. They now claim that it was a harmless episode, and some Chinese media commentary even branded Huang An, the instigator of this controversy as a "traitor."

The whole thing crystallizes the nature of Chinese regime, showing it in such a dramatic and patently obvious light. This turned out to be a political disaster.
